Spit fire
« on: January 12, 2008, 12:04:17 PM »
I have a spit fire drilled 4.5 x 5 no x hole box finish, im bowling a house shot on brunswick synthetic lanes the shot its a 39 foot shot relitvly easy. I love using my spit fire on this condition but the second game i have a problem carring 7 8 9 10's like no other. I make adjustments left to right a front to back and i get caught up in 9/ 9/ 9/ 9/ 9/ 9/ ect. ever week. I have no idea what to do to carrry the corner pins. I also have a jolt prl, domination and a special agent. but would have to change lines dirsaticly to use. Any sugestions

Change the cover stock so that it"ll retain more energy at the pin deck. You can also change hand positions

I noticed the same thing happening with my Spit Fire after I got it. Now that I'm used to the ball I think it loses carry when you cover too many dry boards or the lanes have carried down. On the plus side it doesn't seem to over or under react to dry boards or carrydown - less splits, washouts and buckets It does require you to pay close attention to what the ball is doing when you lose your carry though.

If it's going just a little long you've probably hit carrydown and need to back off the ball speed a little. If you think the line you're playing looks good but you're not carrying try tightening up your line and not crossing as many dry boards - play straighter and keep it in the oil longer. This may require you to move left, maybe even further left than you think you should and you might have to back off the speed some to get the right angle to carry. Increasing your ball speed and playing the same line could work too. The Spit Fire is a deceptively strong pearl ball and does require some oil up front so it doesn't burn up early when it hits dry boards.

Changing the ball surface is an option too. I keep the surface on mine at 1500 which is the OOB finish but I've knocked the factory polish off of it. I think it's more predictible and rolls much better this way.

Right now my spit fire is at box finish and I play a pretty straight line, Right foot is on 18 eyes are on 7 pb is at 5 and this ball finishes like no other. The first game adverage is 240ish while the second game is a mear 190. And ever week i say im not gonna let that happen again but its seems to always turn out that way. I think it could possibly be when i get loosened up or pumped up after the second game and start grabing at the bottom... that could possibly be it also. Its just going to take practice to find out. Ill pay closer attention to the ball in the heads maybe that will give me a better idea. APprIcate the help !

sounds to me like you need to back off the side turn and end over end roll the ball more. That will allow the ball to read earlier and will decrease the backend move. I find that the SpitFire is great but is VERY sensitive to lane changes.

WHEN I FIRST GOT MY SPIT FIRE I HAD IT AT THE OOB AND LIKED IT ALOT WHEN I HIT THE POCKET FLUSH BUT WHEN I WENT HIGH FLUSH I WOULD LEAVE THE GREEK CHURCH EVERYTIME WENT 2 THE PROSHOP THINKING I SHOULD PUT A SMALL WEIGHT HOLE 2 CHANGE THE ANGLE JUST A BIT. HE TOLD ME 2 TRY 2 CHANGE THE SURFACE SO HE POLISHED IT WITH A COMPOND POLISH AND BOY DID IT WORK 2NIGHT BOWLED 644 AND DIDNT BOWL THAT GREAT. IF I WAS U I WOULD GO TO THE PRO SHOP AND TELL THEM WHAT THE BALL IS DOING AND THEY WILL TELL U WHAT 2 CHANGE IT 2 SOUNDS LIKE U NEED 2 PUT IT AT 4000 WITH NO POLISH THAT NORMLY WILL WORK FOR THE CORNER PINS

Went out today to throw a few games with the spit fire first game shoot 290 then 257 then a 269 for an 816 with the spit fire. I was playin my normal line with this ball right foot on 18 eyes on 7 bp at 7. I try to keep everything simple so there is  less room for error. Last night i put a 4000 grit Ab, finish on the ball and wow did this make a diffrence it was just matching up perfectly. I also got the ball out on the lane alittle further today that seemed to help aswell. Now i hope i can do it in league tommarow.

Last year 212 RIght now 208 Last year I shot 299 with (fury) 300 (Fury) Orig inferno (300)(800) Threshold (300). It was a good year i used to use all burnswick stuff, but the fury's were hit or miss and im always looking to try something new. I chaged my game aswell i used to play in deep with more revs but i basicly sprayed the ball every whare, but now i changed my line and hand position to whare i roll up the back of the ball simular to norm duke thats basically the style i want to copy it just makes bowling so much easier then trying to be all fancy. Basically i wanted to do a couple things.... 1, be more accurate, 2. learn to play straight. 3.Be more consistant and everything iv changed is working out, specailly with the new equipment.
