3 drilling options

With all of these drill patterns you will probably want to use a fairly short pin to Pap Distance (i.e 3 3/8" to 4.5") to help the ball read the midlane (reduce length)

Go with something with a strong cover and put a 0 degree or 25 degree lay out on it.  0 to 25 degree refers to angle between Pap to Cg and Pap to Cg

another option would be the RICO lay out see www.brunsnick.com again on a ball with a strong cover.  (Pin in Center grip, Cg kicked out at 45 degrees w/ X-hole at 45 degrees 7" from center grip)

Another option is a 1:30 lay out.

if an X-hole is needed for the 1:30 layout see if u can throw it a few times before putting it in, and watch the x-hole video on www.brunsnick.com

if you don't want to get smoothness strictly due to drilling find a very low RG ball with a Med Diff.  Solid particle would be the smoothest (i.e BVP Mammoth or Double Agent) followed by Solid reactive (i.e Scorching inferno or Special Agent).  The last possible option would be a Pearl particle with a mellow drill like the 3 above and taken to around 1000-2000 grit (i.e Threshold).  The reason I only mention Symmetrical cores is that they are generally smoother.  for more info on how the different drill patterns react msg me or check out http://www.rollrite.co.uk/secrets.php a very good page on drill patterns.

Heavy Oil + Smooth = solid particle

Best solid particle on the market for me is the RotoGrip Epic Battle.  It's a strong heavy oil ball that crushes the pocket.  It is the ball Storm set out to make (but missed the mark) when they made the Trifecta.

i am not a big fan of mine yet but we are beginning to learn each other. But the no mercy is if nothing else smooth. If you can watch your speed and angle you might find it decent on some heavier oil patterns.I shot on the usbc open shot yesterday and once i realized how to throw it it read the midlane and faced the pocket rather nicely. I was impressed.

For smooth you usually want dull, high-load solid particles with lower-RG cores and drillings where the CG or MB is swung towards the VAL.  The AMB Particle, Mammoth, Double Agent, SCB, or NS2.
