Title: Step down from Code Red
Post by: Metal_rules on September 24, 2017, 07:05:11 PM
When the Red is too much, what can I get as a step down that has the same motion. I think the Black may be too strong when the lanes break down. I would also rather have a smoother reaction. I was thinking of putting a lower surface on my Dare Devil, because when it sees dry, it moves. I am hoping for a DD hybrid. Or should I get a Black?

A step down from the Code Red would be the Match Ups

Hyroad brotha.

If it's not clean enough, hyroad pearl.

If that don't work..... match up...I'd go with the solid.  Just basing that on the solid release even though it's polished tends to be the better of the entire line.  Shouts, loco solid, hustle ink, match up solid...

Don't forget the Roto side, all good suggestions, that dare devil would be a good fit as well, very underrated ball imo.

What about the Honey Badger?

Hyroad Hyroad Hyroad.  Same exact cover, same exact look on the lane, less hook.  Quite possibly the simplest question ever to answer.  Don't look anywhere else, don't entertain any other suggestions.  The Hyroad is what you want.

Hyroad needs to be in every arsenal early period and I am not even a Storm guy.  Its that good on house shot.

It's not for everyone though. I had a HyRoad Pearl and I've thrown my buddies HyRoad that has a close span to me, the core loped too much for me. I loved the Crossroad.

Agreed with Star. I could never throw a #15 HyRoad - 2.57 and 0.046 would lope thru the heads with my game. Now, 16# numbers would fit my game well. I've never understood why the numbers in that ball had to be so different. I even asked Mo once as a generic question on the board, because Radical numbers were always close or spot on. His reply...."They could, they have CAD, I have no idea why they don't make them match".

Maybe change my answer lol, Hustle Ink.  I actually tried throwing my Hyroad the other day before going to a tournament, and it was so odd throwing it that I actually left it at home so I wouldn't even be tempted to bring it out.  It's a really different roll from a lot of stuff on the market right now.  I can see how it wouldn't match up for certain people.

Ah come on don't waffle on me, jk :).  Hyroad probably matches up with more people especially on house shot than any other reactive ball released which is why you can still buy one today nearly a decade after first release.  I will admit there are other fine Storm Roto balls also that fit the bill but I wouldn't buy them before I owned a Hyroad.  Now the IQ Tour solid I am starting to think that ball is going to get benched until I start doing sport patterns or tournaments.  That one is maybe over hyped IMO so far or matches up less with my style.

Nah just overhyped.  It rolls well in the midlane but doesn't really finish.  It's really good at getting 9 though.

I hope the OP doesn't mind me asking here since it's a similar question. Would a Hustle Ink with a stronger pin and surface be a good option if a Code Black at 2000 is a bit too much? I saw on Facebook that you drilled another with a 4 inch pin and surface adjustment.

4" Hustle Ink at 2000 is about 4 boards stronger and a few feet earlier than a 5 1/4" box finish.  I used the 4" in league all night last night, and the box finish one so far hasn't been quite strong enough on the fresh.  Even at 4" the ball doesn't flare that much, so I actually like the reaction of it better, revs up sooner and is firmer off the spot.  Somehow even better than the first one I drilled.

I drilled up a Hustle Ink to be my ball down when my Code Black @ 2000 starts to Be too much.  My Code Black at 2000 can start to struggle to turn the corner with energy left to carry the 10 pin as I get later into a long block/second shift. The Ink has been absolutely money in that role for me.

The pin is in ring on the Ink, a high flaring pin position for me.

I use a Hy-Road Pearl as my step down to pretty much anything. Reason why, I can get all the way left where a glimmer of oil may remain, and it'll recover for me. I was intrigued by the Hustle Ink but wonder if it's too close to my IQ Tour and Hy-Road Pearl to make it worth it.

I will do my research and hopefully a ball demo will come around so I can at least roll a few of the balls mentioned.

I like them and have bought quite a bit of stuff from them in past including a Path Rising ball just this week.  Couldn't remember if the Hy-Road pearl was still available or not so glad to see it was.  Wish I would have looked harder for an IQ Tour fusion or pearl instead of the solid but that one sadly isn't produced any more.

Lol yeah . . Hyroad, Hyroad Pearl, and IQ Tour Solid are all still in production and in no danger of going anywhere . . most people for some reason don't know that, so I'd always have them in stock in the shop so people would come in and go "oh wow, you have one of those? I'd better pick it up before someone else does."

At least for the Hy-Road probably have Belmo to partially thank why that ball has stayed in production.  Any ball that both Belmo and I consider our go to ball must absolutely rock because our styles (and averages lol) couldn't be more different.
