Invasion... is it worth buying?

Ok, so I have the Reign of Fire, Virtual Gravity, Power Charge Pearl, Xfactor Xtreme, which I can use for a heavier oil shots...  

Is it worth getting the Invasion ??????   My VG is awesome but havent thrown it lately, and the ROF i have yet to throw yet, will get to monday nite.

all i have heard is for the Invasion to work, u either need a flood, or a weak drilling and then to hit it up with polish..      

I have pleny of Revs, so making the ball hook isnt a issue lol....  

I almost feel like i would be overlapping if i got the Invasion....

The BIG Difference is that the Invasion does not lane shine.  I have 60 games on mine and it still lookes like it came out of the box and I dont clean it or wipe it off. The VG will shine itself over time and you have to sand the surface. The Invasion may shine itself at some point but so far so good. I have one shined up just because I dont think the dull one will ever shine itself.

tizzle what is it about pin down drillings on the invasion people don't like.  i'm getting one soon and my favorite drill is pin under ring cg kicked about 1/2 to an inch out.  about 4x4 for me.  any help will be greatly appreciated.  thanks.

The ball starts too quick and burns up energy for all but the most rotationally challenged with strong drillings with that ball. That's what people don't like, but it is a great ball with weaker drillings and/or on floods.

To the OP, what makes you want the Invasion if hooking the ball is not an issue?

From my perspective, the ball provides what Storm intended when they introduced the ball. A low RG with an aggressive cover will pick up in oil very quickly. The ball has a great midlane read and tremendous continuation at the pins with a low pin drilling. In my humble opinion, it makes sense to lay the ball out using the characteristics of the ball as intended. To an advantage! Again from my perspective, I do not think you should take a ball intended to pick up early and roll early and drill it up trying to make it go longer. Its a great piece of equipment if you save it for the heaviest of conditions and or much longer patterns.

The Reign of Fire is indeed awesome.  I didn't find the Invasion disappointing.  It was the majority of lanes I tried to use it on that was disappointing to me.

I totally agree with you about using it on the lane conditions that is was intended for, or if your a bowler who can a deep projection shot, say rolling the ball across board 15 out to 5, then you'll be able to play it on a THS.

The unfortunate part is that this opinion couldn't be further from the truth. Unfortunately, drilling strong balls to roll quick is only favorable for the most extreme of bowlers or conditions. For most, drilling strong balls strong or weak balls weak make them so condition specific that they often are almost unusable.

Try to drill low RG/high diff/high intermediate diff balls rather weak for all but the heaviest of floods and lowest of rev rates.

I have watched bowlers use this ball "Invasion" in tournaments on modified Sport Patterns,on the new USBC White and Blue and on a THS only to put it away after the first game to 18 frames. Regardless of the layout. I have seen some success when the surface has been polished. Why polish the ball when there is equipment out there that will provide the same look without doing anything to the surface. And will offer a better look on a THS over the course of a match. I agree...............like many of the Sanded Dull Surface Balls that become problematic when they encounter friction are: "Condition Specific". What would be the point to start out with the strongest ball in your arsenal when a couple of steps down will provide you with a good look for all three games.  Between todays THS and modern balls, most scoring starts out right and ends up left of 20. This is a great piece of equipment for use on what it was intended for. Lots of oil. Condition Specific. Your point is well taken.
