Special Agent vs. SD-73 Classic
« on: March 12, 2007, 01:30:32 PM »
Has anyone had a chance to compare the two?  I was thinking of trying the SD-73, I already own a Special Agent and was just thinking of the Roto-Grip stuff as another possible venue.

Yes Pat, I've thrown both.  Both are medium-heavy oil balls but their roll is very different.  SD-73 goes longer than the SA, but it turns MUCH harder.  Personally I couldn't get the SD-73 to get back to the pocket in a consistant way that's why I passed on it.

P.S. I am also starting to uses Roto-Grip as well for different looks.  My 14 year old daughter (175 avg.) is using the Epic Saga as her medium ball and it reacts the closest to the original X-Factor that I've seen.  Also, I am using the Epic Battle sanded to 500 grit as my soup oil ball.

I take it you mean the NEW SD73, the Classic?

If so.. then i Have thrown both.  And liked them both.

On our standard league shot, the SD73 is WAY more aggressive.. earlier, and sharper on the back end.

The special agent got surprisingly good length for me, and rolled really well.  I was expecting it to be more like the Epic Battle, but it reacted like a solid reactive fore me.

The SD73 is stronger overall, and is probably the strongest reacting ball I have ever thrown.

(sounds like greenfam is talking about the old SD73)

nope - I used the current SD-73 Classic.

I threw these two balls side by side for a comparison.  The SA was drilled 5 x 3 and the SD-73 was drilled 4 x 4.  SA grabbed the lanes about 2 feet earlier than the SD, but the SD-73 was much sharper with about 5 boards more hook.
