Storm Depth Charge
« on: April 05, 2012, 04:33:39 AM »
This is my ultimate favorite ball by Storm. This ball made me play inside the track and not worry about it not coming back - on THS. On the cheetah pattern, it made playing the twig on this pattern real fun. I miss using this ball. and, I have question about the core.

Was it assymetrical or symmetrical? Did storm reuse the core on another ball? And is there any ball close to the depth charge's roll in the storm's current line up?

I had one in my youth days, I just remember that it was a solid medium-oil ball that was particle pearl.  I was actually upset from the beginning because I had joined one of those get a ball choice leagues and I actually wanted the orignal blue Charge because it was a pearl if I remember correctly.  Anyways, I don't know any other balls they used the weight block on at the time other than the Charge but they def. don't use it in any of the newer stuff.  Coverstock is way outdated too but would probably still work on med-dry conditions.  The Prodigy or 2nd Dimension are both particle pearls but they don't make them anymore.  There really isn't with a low rg, higher diff and particle pearl in the current line.  Try and get a prodigy or a 2nd dimension and put a weaker drill on it with some shine, might be close?

Super Charge (solid monsoon) and Depth Charge (pearl particle) were the same exact low RG core.  I really loved both balls.

Storm has over the past few years abandoned making particle balls in favor of hybrids and they flirted with a particle substitute ETM in the Second Dimension and the Prodigy.  IMO pearl particle balls like the Depth Charge, X Factor Ace, and the Shift provided a look that has not yet been replaced.

I agree, the Ace is probably gonna be the closest you'll get to the Depth Charge. My wife has a Depth Charge and a Super Charge. She likes them both. Regarding the Ace, it's a stronger ball than the Depth Charge but it's also a very versatile ball for me. It seems to work when nothing else will. Guess that's why I have 3 of them. 2 are for sale or trade if you're looking for one. Anyway, the Ace was the best pearl particle that Storm made in my opinion. I haven't thrown anything close. I can tell you that a Virtual Energy is an amazing hybrid ball. Even smoother than the Ace. Comparing apples to oranges there though. Anyway, maybe at some point Storm will bring back a pearl particle ball. If you're interested in an Ace, hit me up. I need them gone. lol

Totally forgot about the ACE, that ball was tempting back then. I just couldn't afforded balls at the time.. Anyway, thanks for the offer, but I'm cleaning house. I just sold 4 balls this week and 1 pending.

Another ball I liked was the RG Mystic....but that ball cracked.. This was one RG ball I could throw.

I seem to remember an El Nino 2000 with pearl particle.  I agree 'til this day, it was a unique reaction that hasn't really been duplicated.  While I've never been crazy about particle coverstocks, the combination of pearl and particle was most attractive to me.
