Storm Equinox and maybe too much polish
« on: April 12, 2025, 05:45:25 PM »
I’m not going to post all the specs of the ball. That’s redundant.

I’m throwing the Equinox on a 42 ft house pattern so the manager tells me.

It seems like I am getting too much over under.  Can not play down and in outside of 10.

This is not a complaint. I would just to know if anyone changed the surface maybe to remove some of the polish.

This is Nicanor. Had to start over because I lost my password and they’ll only send an email to an email I no longer use. Moved to Missouri and left California for a simpler life.
Thanks, don’t bash me.

6 on the deck! Welcome back Nicanor.

Too much polish will give you over/under. Sanding to 4000 or lightly hitting it with a 2000 or 3000 pad just to break the surface some should reduce the "squirtiness" and help the ball read the pattern better.

Thank you Strider.
I wish admin could send me a new password for my Nicanor account. When I moved to Missouri we had to cancel our Cox account and that where admin is sending my link for a new password.

Today I used the Equinox all three games without taking off and polish on a 42 ft house shot.  I had the market on 10 pins but decided to stick with it.  Move down and in on 10 board, 10 pin.  Move right down and I. On 8 board, too dry through the face.  Then 22 and 10, 24 and 10 all 10 pins.  Couldn’t change the surface during league so I did after league. Will see if it helps.

But I have been killing it with the Ion Pro.  Thought I could get a little better carry the first game with the Equinox.  I have a Special Effect to drill next week.

Just to follow up:
Took some polish off the Equinox but obviously not enough or enough surface.
With a 42 ft lane condition this ball is like the ever ready battery. It keeps going and going.  Then add in a little carry down and the ball is extremely inconsistent. Very over under.

I don’t know how Storm can say this ball is meant for league bowlers on a 38-44 oil pattern.  It’s not an answer for average league bowlers.  There’s way too much polish.  Yes take the polish off, I agree.  Put a little surface on the ball, I agree.  But out of the box it’s not meant for the average bowler.  It’s a sales pitch.

Now they said the Ion Pro was the ball first out of the bag.  Great for league bowlers.  In my opinion they were much closer to being accurate as compared to the Equinox. They just try to play “it’s a great league bowlers on ball” again.  Way too much hype.

Only because I said I would:
I drilled the Hammer Special Effect bowling ball as closely as I could with regards to the Equinox.  Same bowling lanes same league.

The Hammer Special Effect is a better ball for league bowlers in my opinion. I didn’t have to adjust the cover stock though I’m sure you could.  The Special Effect isn’t near as polished as the Equinox. On two different occasions I lightly sanded the Equinox, maybe not enough still.  The carry with the Special Effect was drastically better than the Equinox.

All the hype about bowling balls being league balls is turning into sales pitch. I read some of these reviews and I think it’s Storm staff or wannabes because they don’t say anything.

Now not to totally bash, the Ion Pro Ion Max is a great combo.  The Pro is a great ball for a 42 ft league pattern maybe with a touch of surface.  Too much oil first game the Max takes care of that and when needed go to the Pro. I think the Equinox might be better for the two handed bowlers but again, my opinion.
