Ball Choice for dry lanes!
« on: September 26, 2009, 03:58:39 AM »
I am a low rev player 250-300 revs on the ball 15-16mph speed trying to get a dry lane ball.  I want to stay with storm it is a toss up between Natural and Fast. Im just worried that I wont have enough hand for the Natural and the fast will be too much I dont want to hook the whole lane looking for suggestions.

Suggestion - buy a fast, drill it mild (5x4 pin under or such).  Try that.  If it is too much ball for you sand it to 4000 and lightly polish.

IMO, go with a Natural, have it drilled at 4.5-5.5" from PAP and with the pin above the fingers (might need 3-4" pin), and try the ball OOB. From there, you can still work with the surface (with finer grits, rubbing compounds or polish - or rougher, if you need earlier traction), and in the worst case even consider a balance hole to fine-tune the reaction.

Fast will IMHO be just too strong, I doubt that would make a good dry lane basis. Then I'd rather consider a Tropical Storm.

I agree with dizzy. Fast is too much for dry lanes. Go with the Natural. I love mine! It is one of the best dry lane balls you can get. Unless we are talking totally fried, then get a Starburst XXXL.

What is your definition of dry lanes?  Seems like all of the balls listed are pretty strong.  Are you looking for something under the 2D?

If you think the Fast is too much, what about a Roto-Grip Mars? It will be stronger then a Natural, but less ball then the Fast.

i was just going to say that i driled the fast ,i thought for dry lanes, pin up 6 inches from pap.I have never drilled a ball with a pin this far left but i wanted it for drier lanes, not. this ball needs head oil even with this drill.
