looking for new ball
« on: November 19, 2011, 12:47:57 PM »
I am currently bowling for my college team and have a VG Nano, Anarchy, Victory Road solid, Mars, Lightning and Ice. I am looking for a ball in between my Anarchy and Mars that will get through the heads and snap at the end. I was looking at either the Reign Supreme, Hyroad, Victory Road pearl or 2fast. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What are your specs for how you throw?  Also, are you sure you're looking between the Anarchy and Mars?  From here,  you already would have the Victory Road solid.  Unless you're looking to compliment the VR Solid.  If you can clarify that for us, that'd be great.

Sorry I throw about 15 mph and im a tweener. im looking for something a little smoother through the heads and a skid flip motion. the VR solid is a great ball however I find it turning the corner too early on some patterns.

I would recommend a VR Pearl or Marvel pearl. Personally I think the Marvel is a bit better of the two from what I have seen but it could be a little stronger than what you describe you are looking for.

I would travel over to the kingdom and snag a Roto Grip Bandit to fill that gap.

It's no problem.  There are 4 options I'll give you (3 Storm/RG, 1 Ebonite).  I agree with the Marvel Pearl as a possibility.  It tends to be cleaner up front and tends to get in the roll sooner than the VG Pearl.  Plus, you would still get the ability to use it on some heavier shots since it can handle some heavier volume.   The 2nd option would be the RG Bandit.  This ball is clean through the fronts and the core/cover match is excellent.  I have seen this thrown recently and it absolutely carries well.

1 other option from RG is the Nomad Dagger.  I have this, is one of my proven balls in the arsenal and have used it successfully for about a year now.  I like how the ball is clean up front but makes good, controlled move off the breakpoint.  It's not super angular like the VR Pearl, but that is a good thing.  It also carries very well and it's right up there as 1 of the 2 balls I will throw most.  Usually it will come out in the 2nd game after the Nano does its job and allows me to just make minimal adjustments the rest of the night.  Predictability is a positive with this ball as I know what to expect when I throw it to my target area.

The option from Ebonite is the Vital Energy.  This is the ball that actually changed my opinion of Ebonite.  The reason I can recommend this (and this is from a guy who throws all Storm/RG in 95% of the arsenal) is simply that this ball flat out works.  I've had this ball about 1-1/2 weeks now and love how clean it is in the front/mid part of the lane.  It's actually cleaner than my Dagger.  Then, it makes a very predictable move off the breakpoint and carries very well.  For a pearl asymmetrical in the mid-performance range, it is absolutely one of the most underrated and best balls out there.

Tommyboy what are the differences between the Nomad Dagger and the Reign Supreme because they seem like almost the same ball to me.

Main difference is the core and the inside itself.  Both the Dagger and Reign Supreme are hybrids, so they will give you the best of both worlds.  Usually, the Storm cores tend to be a little more angular on the backend, even with hybrid covers.  Roto Grip normally tends to be a continual hook motion with their hybrids.  I found this to be the case where someone I know in my league throws the Reign Supreme whereas I throw the Dagger.  We were going against each other's teams one night and played the same lines.  My observation is that the Supreme seemed to be a little more angular and the Dagger was more continuous.  It was not by much though.

Another difference is that the Nomad Dagger does not use any filler material whatsoever inside.  That ball is just core and cover.  The Reign Supreme is your standard cover, filler, and core setup.

Overall, you can't go wrong with either as both are great choices.  You may be able to find the Dagger for a little less money and it will work just as well as the Reign Supreme.
