Need help with a complement to my new Timeless
« on: July 04, 2017, 10:04:47 PM »
Hello all,

I recently purchased a new Timeless bowling ball on coming back into bowling after many years off. My last ball was the Hot Rod Pearl (very old). As a few friends have started a team and entered a league I'm trying to improve and I bought a ball that I could grow into. After trying the ball for the first time (being a 2 handed bowler), I threw 4 strikes in a row and really liked the feel and also the length before the reaction. Considering that the Timeless is made for medium to heavy oil, I was looking for a ball that could complement the Timeless for medium to dry lanes when the lanes break down. I have been averaging around 158 for my first 3 games since getting the Timeless and been improving every week. But I have been seeing later in the games my Timeless is very strong reactions down lane when the lanes wear down. Any suggestions on a second ball in the Storm family to help me when the lanes wear down. I have been looking at the Street Fight but open to suggestions. My Timeless is a 14lb ball

Might look at the Hyroad Pearl instead.  The Street Fight isn't a terrible option, just feel the Hyroad Pearl is more consistent and better from angle.  Not to mention the Street Fight is discontinued, so may have some trouble getting it.

As a two hander myself. I am a Hammer Head, but I have the Timeless also. I have the IQ Tour and the Scandal. When the lanes are dry the best route to go is the Hammer Blue Urethane. You can get it for cheap 80.00 brand new. I do have a used one in 14 as I went to 15. PM if interested.

Thank you all for the help, I had no idea the Street Fight was discontinued. I will start the research for a second ball. Is the pitch black comparable to the Hammer Blue Urethane? I have been eyeing the Hy-road pearl as well.

Pitch Black is a little stronger than the Hammer Blue Urethane.  Urethane is a really huge step down from a Timeless, but DJ makes a good point that urethane can be a 2 hander's best friend, and if you continue to progress and stick with it, you'll need urethane at some point.  Don't know if you quite need it for a transitioning house shot, but keep it in mind.

Seems to me the OP needs a ball to start the night with then transition to the Timeless instead of the other way around.

If I were to recommend a two-ball league arsenal that included the Timeless it would also have the Torrent (staying with Storm).  Start with the Torrent and move to the Timeless when you start to migrate in.

Possibly the new Show Off too. That's to be determined still though.

Code Black
Axiom Pearl
Phaze III

Partly how I ended up with the Timeless is the wife bought it after she knew I was looking a few I was looking at the Code Red, Black and the Timeless. I came home from work and she had it there and I went over to get it fitted to me. (awesome present). She knew my friends was starting in a league and I used to bowl and through deployments overseas and everything I just kind of faded back. Now that I'm out after 11 1/2 years my friends are looking to start their team and I know I need a lot of work but it was a nice gesture on the ball, but it also unleashed the now I need a ball to complement it lol. Thank you all for your suggestions as I am considered a newbie getting back into bowling again:)

Well, he said he wanted something to compliment it for when the lanes broke down, this is the segment I'm going off of:

"Considering that the Timeless is made for medium to heavy oil, I was looking for a ball that could complement the Timeless for medium to dry lanes when the lanes break down. I have been averaging around 158 for my first 3 games since getting the Timeless and been improving every week. Totally agree Luke.  I wasn't insinuating anything negative, only perhaps the OP might want to look more at how to approach the shot.

To the OP, Luke's suggestion is a great for a step down from the Timeless while maintaining the shape you like to see.

Yeah I didn't think you were, I just wanted to make sure I was reading it right and wasn't missing anything, of course you could be reading in between the lines and answering the real question.

You've had people weighing in but no one has seen you bowl to know. Maybe your local pro shop operator can watch you and give you some suggestions.

Me, I am a high rev bowler, I do use my Timeless once the pattern transitions and I recently punched a Match Up Black-Orange-Silver that has been a nice step off of the Timeless. Take a look at the Roto Grip Hustle too, as it may be just what you need to tame down your reaction.
