Question from the past: Why did Cadmium come and go so quickly?
« on: November 13, 2006, 01:54:33 PM »
I've always wondered why Storm phased this coverstock out after using it on just a few balls. I know it was on both the Eraser Blaze and Boost, and I thought it was on the Core Power HRG, but I'm not sure. Nevertheless, why did this coverstock come and go after such a short run?

From what I saw in my area, the Blaze was immensely popular. It seemed you couldn't go to a single tournament without seeing at least 10-20 guys with them on the rack or in the bag. The Boost didn't seem to get as much play, but everyone that I know who had one, myself included, really like it a lot.

With that said, why was this coverstock abandoned so quickly? Did the formulation get tweaked into something different under a new name, or was the whole mixture just canned? I've always wondered why this stock went away so quickly. Don't get me wrong; Storm has made plenty of other great covers. I'm just wondering why this one, which seemed so popular, fell by the wayside so quickly. Does anyone know what happened?

Incidentally, I love the used Blaze that I recently picked up. Drilled with the pin under ring, cg stacked with some light shine, the ball is money on transition. It clears the heads with ease before getting into the smoothest arc you've ever seen on the backend. Once it hits the hole, that nasty-strong PBT core takes care of the rest. If you can still find a Blaze, pick it up and lock it away. It's just as good now as it was when it was first released!

I had a Boost that I maintained regularly (and loved btw) and it still lost considerable reaction after about 60 games.

Something tells me they just renamed it down the line.  They were Accu-Tread based with a really light/fine particle load.

Urethane, that kind of surprises me. I used my Boost for much longer and saw no obvious signs of reaction loss. I guess everyone's experience is different.

DP,

I kind of figured that may have happened. I mean, look at how many names Elite comes up with for Brunswick's old covers!

My finally started losing it's power after 4 years of solid usage.  I used it at a State Tournament last year and finished 7th in overall.  Unfortunately when I left the team event there were alot of scratches along my track around the whole ball.  They were only on my track.  I was playing much deeper than the other players so I might've been rolling over a rough spot on the lanes or something. Anyway, I think that's the reason it lost it's power not because the coverstock wore out.
3-300 games a couple of 299s and a top ten finish at state.  I think I did pretty well with my Boost.
So, I too would like to see that cover come back.
