So is the Mix a good spare ball or will it hook on you? Thinking urethane would be more durable and might make a good fried lane option.

All the above comments are true. I switched to from Plastic to a Mix a few years ago, and I wouldn't go back. On toasty conditions, it will move a board or two more than plastic, but it's something easy to adjust to.
The main thing for me is that it doesn't crack. I hated repairing/replacing plastic balls at least once a year.

I've had my Mix for a couple years now. It's taken many 20 mph hard shots in the gutter and in the pit when going for 7/10 splits. I don't think it has a scratch on it.
When going for ten pins I throw it dead flat and you can hear it thumping down the lane over the finger and thumb. No nicks or chips in any of the holes.
On dry lanes it will hook plenty if you want it to. It's also a safe option on the 3/6/10 when the lane gets touchy down in that spot.

I agree with what everyone else is saying in that the Mix is a great spare ball. It is extremely durable and can be used on the toast as well!

Mix also holds up well with interchangeable thumbs.

I bought a Green/White Mix last summer to replace my chipping Blue Dot and couldn't be happier. It's holding up quite well, no signs of chipping or cracking, and I find that it holds it's line better than plastic in my experience.

Agreed.
The Mix still has the durability (comes with a 2 year warranty), but doesn't hook like the Polar Ice. Still a tick more than plastic, but still great for spares.
