Title: Storm Proton Physix
Post by: KennonMcFalls300 on November 20, 2020, 11:17:26 AM

Hook in a box. That's what you'll get with the Proton Physix. I have had huge success with the Protons predecessors. I have multiple 800s with both the Physix and the Astro Physix. Fast forward to the Proton and you have a combination of the Atomic core and the NeX coverstock. I was skeptical that this ball would be even slower than the Axiom due to the bigger weight block. BOY WAS I WRONG. This ball has plenty of giddyup down lane and you won't be disappointed. You'll still find that this ball is weaker than balls such as the Omega Crux and Gravity Evolve. The Proton Physix bridges the gap nicely between our strong symmetrical balls and our huge asymmetrical pieces.

The Stats ….
Color: Magenta/Black/Violet
Coverstock: NeX Pearl Solid
Weight Block: Atomic Core
Factory Finish: 2000 Grit Abralon
Flare Potential: High
Radius of Gyration (RG): 2.48
Differential (Diff): 0.053
Intermediate Differential (Diff): 0.017
Fragrance: Frosted Cupcake
BOWLER STYLE: RH - Power Stroker Rev Rate: 320 Ball Speed: 15-16 PAP: 4 7/8 right 3/8 up.
Layout : 4 1/2 X 4 X 3

My Thoughts…. I mean what can I say about this NeX cover!!!!  It is the next level Nano tech and what does that mean?? Ball digs in the oil and HOOKS! By this time you should have already had a chance to throw the Axiom Solid or Axiom Pearl.  When I tested this ball I knew from the first shot that it will be a ball used for longer, flatter, or higher viscosity oils.

The Proton PhysiX wants to start hooking due to the combination of the Atomic core and the NeX cover. On a THS the Proton I see the ball using its energy early but doesn’t burn up and seems to blend the THS

Comparing it to my Rubicon I found the Rubcoin to be not as strong as the Proton but responded more off the pattern as the Proton sees the middle of the lane faster than the Rubicon did. I can play the same part of the lane and stand on the same spot and see a difference between these balls’ motions.

The Proton PhysiX features the NeX solid coverstock and the asymmetric high torque Atomic core.  NeX solid was introduced on the Axiom and is an evolution of the famed NRG cover that’s known for its smooth and continuous control.  NeX retains those core attributes and adds entry angle, durability, and longevity of reaction.  The Atomic core comes in at a 2.48 rg, .053 diff, and .017 split or intermediate differential and is exceptionally dynamic.  NeX solid harnesses all that aggression while Atomic gives IT some extra kick.  The overall result reminds me a lot of a stronger and more continuous Halo.  It’ll handle the heaviest volumes out there plus blend friction and avoid burning up or losing energy and is one of the most versatile heavier oil balls I’ve ever thrown.  With 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest, I rate the Proton a 10 on hook, a 4 on length, and a 4 on backend strength.

If you need a ball to hook in oil, look no further!  Not only is the new Proton Physix strong, it continues super well!  This ball, although designed for heavy oil can certainly be used on a variety of patterns because of how well it continues.  The NEX coverstock first found on the Axiom, is early, strong, predictable and continuous as the theme here.  If you need a ball that just flat out hooks or you have the original Physix and need a slightly stronger ball, then this is the answer!  The first reviews on this ball has been incredibly positive and outstanding for many different bowler types.  For anyone who bowls on sport patterns or in the PBA would surely appreciate this ball as well as these patterns tend to have more overall oil volume.  This is a ball that will come with me for most tournaments because of its strength and great versatility.

Since the arrival of the Atomic Core, it has pushed the shaping limits of an asymmetrical ball. Wrap that around the NeX Solid cover and you have yourself the brand new Proton Physix. I drilled mine 5 x 5.5 x 1 and after throwing this ball for awhile I noticed how difference this ball is compared to the Gravity Evolve or any other solid asymmetrical, this ball shapes totally different.  The Proton Physix rolls strong in the mid lane but doesn’t quit on back end either.  Which doesn’t surprise me in the Physix line. This ball will be great on heavier/longer patterns and on those heavy fresh house shots.

As much as I loved the original PhysiX (I've owned four of them!), I never thought that I'd ever say the words "PhysiX upgrade"... but yet here I find myself, saying this about the new Proton PhysiX! This provides an extremely familiar feel in shape to the original PhysiX and the AstroPhysiX, while also providing an upgrade in both traction and control over the PhysiX thanks to being wrapped in the same NeX Solid coverstock as the Axiom. If you need traction and hook in heavy oil... you will NOT be disappointed with the Proton PhysiX!

Hands down the strongest ball available. The Physix line is now batting 1.000 and this one handles all the oil you could imagine. The trick is always getting the continuation threw the pins with these top shelve most aggressive balls. The Proton has more backend and continues threw the pins better then any ball in this category ever made!

Storm Proton Physix
Layout - 65 x 4.5 x 30

Holy hook monster!  This ball is super strong, probably the strongest ball we make.  This is meant to be used on the heaviest of oil conditions, when you are trying to create motion when the lane will not provide it.  For me it is noticeably earlier and more hook than the original Physix.  Speed dominant players, long heavy oil conditions, USBC Open Championships, these are the people/enviorments where this ball will be best used!  Great shelf appeal and all you can eat hook!

Storm Proton Physix has hoooooook!

Bowlers Info: RH tweener, PAP 4-1/2 x 7/8 up, 365 RPM, 17* of Axis tilt, 60* of Axis Rotation

Ball Layout: 50 x 5.5 x 50

Finish: OOB

For anyone that has enjoyed the Physix series will welcome this newest addition to that series.  The AstroPhysix is one my absolute all-time favorites but always felt the cover on the Physix didn’t quite match up with my game.  BUT, that’s not what I’m seeing out of the Proton Physix, for a big ball, this piece is versatile!  I drilled my ball with a long pin placing the pin over the middle finger and 3” PSA as I wanted clean but strong controlled motion.  I tested this on the 46’ Johnny Petraglia and it handled that oil nooooo problem!  As I kept moving left, it kept racing back and didn’t lose its energy going thru the pins.  Very impressive!  If you’re in the market for a bigger piece, don’t look past the Proton, there’s something special in that piece just in time for Xmas!

The Proton PhysiX is an all new asymmetrical ball by Storm. It features the Atomic core which was featured in the PhysiX and the AstroPhysiX. it also features the NeX cover which was introduced on the Axiom. I absolutely love how this ball rolls. the combination of the NeX Cover and the Atomic Core is absolutely amazing. I think it will be best on heavier oil lane conditions and longer patterns as well. For me it is a tad more then met UFO in the mids, and more downline than a Crux Prime. Be sure to get yours today!

Introducing the brand new Proton PhysiX! This is Storm's new big asymmetrical ball! This ball features the NeX Solid Reactive coverstock wrapped around the Atomic core! The NeX Solid Reactive was featured in the Axiom and, the atomic core was featured in the original PhysiX! This ball just flat out hooks and, is known as a "Hook Monster"! For me this is a great ball for heavier lane conditions or, for when the transition hits and, the backends don't have as much friction. Compared to my Axiom this ball is more aggressive overall where as my Axiom is cleaner through the fronts and aggressive down lane.

Do yourself a favor and go get one! Everyone needs a ball like this in their bag!

Review:
This is the big ball Storm Fans have been waiting for. The look of the ball is great and it rolls even better. The Proton is the biggest hooking ball in my bag edging out my UFO. The proton reads early but has a nice move on the back end. This ball has already been a big seller in our shops. I have a lower rev rate but the Proton Physix is normally too much ball on our house shot even for me. They double oil the first pair in one of the houses I bowl and the Proton was awesome on that tough condition. I even had the front 9 with it then left a stone 9 pin that broke my heart then struck for 279. This ball is also surprisingly forgiving for its strength. I have drilled the Proton Physix for our lower rev rate High School bowlers and they are getting more motion than they ever have. Hook always seems to make folks happy! You just need to know when to put it away. I have tested this ball on a few conditions and if there is enough oil you will not be disappointed.  The Proton drives through the rack nice and strong. I feel the Proton is an upgrade on the original Physix because of the back end motion we have seen with this new release. The original seemed much more forward than this one. If you are looking for a heavy oil ball, or bowl on thick sport conditions the Proton Physix is a great choice.

Summary:
The Proton Physix is very strong throughout the whole lane.
The Proton can really open up a lane.
The colors and scent are great.
The Proton is a great choice for heavier oil patterns.

LANE CONDITION
Length: 40
Volume: Medium
Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS

COMMENTS
Wait there’s another Physix coming out?! Yes that’s right, the brand new Proton Physix! This ball is a great compliment to the original, being that the cover is slightly stronger on this new release. So, you can use this Proton Physix even before you pull out the original Physix. It will be perfect for heavier oil conditions, both sport and house shots! If you are a fan of the Roto Grip UFO, you will also like this ball because the two are very comparable. Many times this will be the first ball out of the bag, and it will allow you control when your other balls are not seeing the right spot or shooting too far down the lane. The pink colors on this Proton Physix also increase the shelf appeal and overall beauty of the ball!

PROTON PHYSIX
The Proton Physix features the NEX solid cover that was also on the Axiom but with the Atomic core from the Physix line (RG=2.48, Diff=.054 int diff=.017).

Both the Physix and Astro Physix rolled really well for me and early talk from other staffers was that the Proton reminded them of the Sure Lock which I threw a ton, so needless to say I couldn’t wait for my Proton Physix.

I drilled my Proton 4x4x2 because I wanted a strong layout that I can use when the lanes are tight or for higher volume patterns. For me the Proton fits perfectly between my Gravity Evolve and the Omega Crux. The Proton is earlier than the Omega but hooks more down lane than the Evolve. What I really love about the Proton Physix is the versatility that the NEX cover offers in this big balls. I have tried the Proton at a few different grit surfaces and I have yet to find a shape that doesn’t look good.

If you are looking for a ball for heavy oil I don’t think you will find a better fit than the Proton Physix!

I drilled my PROTON PHYSIX up 65 x 4.5 x 30. I have thrown it at box finish which is 2000.

The intent was to have a big hitter in my bag for long patterns and also ones with more volume that blended down lane. I found out some unique things throwing this and it has more utility than I ever imagined.

I threw this on a 47 ft. sport pattern called Statue of Liberty. The PROTON is at home on this kind of pattern. Good motion and enough cover out of the box to grab the lane and strike pretty frequently. I put it side by side with the RST-X1 and IDOL SYNERGY. The X-1 was about 4 and 2 back to the right and also slightly softer speed. The IDOL SYNERGY was another 4 and 2 right of the X-1 and much slower down the lane compared to both balls.

I also got to throw this in a 50 and over tournament club that used a house pattern. This was one of the most over walled house patterns I have played on in awhile. While my RST-X1 was the look to start, by game 3 that was starting to go away and forcing me left. Now I was in wet/dry zone. On a hunch, I balled up to the PROTON PHYSIX and had enough grab to get on the wetter part of the cliff but enough control that slight misses right just rolled up and stopped. That is refreshing because now another potential use for the ball and to get in the puddle on wet/dry and control the edge of the cliff.

Holy Hook Batman!  This is by far the strongest ball, out of the box, that I have ever thrown!  This bad boy is some how early and some how still manages to generate a bunch of angle down lane.  I bowl mostly on house conditions, there is no way I could leave this at box finish and throw it…ever.  I took quite a bit of surface off of it.  I hit it with a 3000 pad and then again with a 4000 pad.  This allowed the ball to be cleaner through the front, and generating a very strong motion down lane.  This is for sure for the bowler that needs to cut through the oil on a loaded up house shot with a hard lane surface like ProAnvilane.

Physix on Steroids is the Proton Physix
The Storm Proton Physix is a ball you need when you are on those slicker lanes and your ball just doesn’t get going soon enough. This ball is a hook monster. This will help you “open the lane”. Tracks through the oil very well, hit the dry and this ball moves sharp off the spot. It gets through the heads fairly clean as long as you have oil, reads the mid-lane earlier than the original Physix and finishes very strong and powerful. It hits with so much power, pins explode. I was able to play the big puddle of oil on the THS and play deeper from the start. You’ll have to increase speed as the oil goes away or move in deeper.  It’s the perfect compliments to the Physix series when you need earlier and stronger. My PAP is 5-1/8 and 1/8 up. Usually around 15-16mph, I’d probably be classified between and tweener and cranker.

The Storm Proton Physix is the solid cover-stock version of the Physix line of bowling balls. With the NEX cover and the larger Atomic core, this ball, like the others in the Physix family, wants to rev up quick and dig in.

I went with my favorite 75x4.5x45 layout. I was very happy with how well this aggressive cover and core dealt with the wet/dry pattern and wood surface I tested on. Where compared to anything peal the Proton Physix blended the hard edge of the pattern while the pearl stood up and rolled out. The Proton Physix opened the pattern for me and got stronger and stronger the more I moved in.

You’re going to get what you expect out of this ball. It’s ability to pick up, recover and take a hard arc to the pocket is precisely why this ball will work on a range of patterns from medium to heavy volume.

PAP 4 ½ over and 1 up ball speed 15 rev rate 275
Drilling-45x4 1/2x60
Strong Strong Strong, I love this piece. Right away I saw more overall hook than anything in my arsenal. I was able to move 4 to 6 boards further left than my Halo or UFO and had no trouble with the oil, The Proton Loves it!!! Usually I have to play a little closer to the track area on the fresh to see the break point and The Proton Physix lets me get in with the boys without losing any pin carry!!!

PAP 3 ¾ over 1” up ball speed 17 rev rate 475
Drilling-50x4 3/4x70
After days of contemplating what I want to with this Hook Monster I decided to go with smoother pin down drilling and allow this Big Asymmetrical Solid do its thing. Off the press this ball really wants to dig in the oil and create a lot of mid-lane roll, don't be afraid to move left and give this one some room. I see the Proton about 6 boards more overall than my UFO or Omega Crux with the same drilling. I also see some good versatility as well, while shooting my ball reaction video I found I was able to play multiple angles on the Fresh Oil House shot.
