I use a microfiber towel between shots while bowling. It does an excellent job. After a full set with a ball, I mostly use Hook-It to clean it really well. Sometimes I use a 50-50 mixture of Hook-It and Renew-It if it's a ball that I like to keep polished. It gives me a head start toward whatever regular polish I use on that ball.
The most effective ball cleaner I've seen yet is the new Neotac Khameleon Particle Sand Ball Restorer. It's only disadvantage, if you want to call it that, is that if you use it on a ball polished more than 1500 grit, the Khameleon will bring it down to about 1500 grit. For that reason, I mostly stick to Hook-It or the 50-50 mix on polished balls, but Khameleon works EXTREMELY well on dull stuff. It's the only thing I've found that removes ALL the smudges from my Granite Gargoyle, and it does it in one round on the spinner with little pressure required.
