I disagree totally with Chitown and Shelley. The two Shifts I have had have had no problem with carrydown ever and I have never touched the cover on either of them. If anything, my experience is that Shift does not really excel until there is some carrydown to tame it down a little. Then I am able to back off the speed a little and let it react.
Taking the surface down, IMHO, will take away some of the back-end reaction that makes this such a great ball and a perfect complement to the Special Agent.

This ball won't react throwing at my normal ball speed but if I back off it a bit, it'll come back.  

At this point, this ball, which developed a crack 2wks after I bought it, is a $200+ spare ball!

Personally, I don't have any issues with carrydown in my center, maybe the different opinions about carrydown are based in whole with specific centers and their oiling patterns.  The center I frequent oils 38' buffing out to 45', with quite a bit of volume concentrated in the center (10 to 10 board) and on this pattern towards the end of the last game carrydown is evident and thats when the Shift shines.

I agree with riggs on this. My best look is when the oil goes down the lane. all i do is soften my speed. Throw the shift on fresh and the ball goes sideways. This ball is a fast response ball.
