Title: Storm Shift, dying after 40-50 games

When I first got my storm shift, the ball was phenominal. I felt confident using it and throwing it and it had a move that I was very impressed with. Shot my all time high game and series with it.

Now I'm using the shift and I'm noticing the ball tracking up quickly (I bowl on wooden lanes), and the ball barely even hooks half as much it used to when I bought it. I clean it after every use, I've even used the reacta-shine on it before. I'm dissapointed with the longevity of this ball and really don't want to resurface it.

I've noticed that storm balls track up much quicker than those of brunswick. But I love the reaction out of box from a storm ball. Should I join a league on synthetic lanes instead next year? New balls and ball maitenance are killing me.

It may just need some fresh polish added just to add a little extra length and a little pop.   (Box finish is 1500 grit polished)  Polished balls DO need to be occasionally repolished as it does wear off eventually.

Also, since it has a light load particle added to the coverstock, you may need to do a light resurfacing to expose some fresh particle.  Sorry, but resurfacing (even lightly resurfacing) bowling balls today is just a fact of life in general.

For what it's worth, I don't have any problem with Storm balls needing a lot of maintenance in general compared to any other balls I've ever owned.  But also yes, wood lanes do tend to wear down balls faster than synthetic in general.

Proper ball maintenance is a must WHATEVER brand you throw. It is a fact of life in today's bowling environment. Bowling on wood just makes it more necessary more often.

ive heard of ebonite dying but not storm i had over a 1000 games on my shift and it may have lost 2 or 3 boards then i gave it a good resurfacing and it was back, you should also try the hook again chamber it wroks also

Like most of the new coverstocks at 50 games you probably should give it a bath to remove the oil from it

I have a few balls with the R2S cover and they haven't died yet.  Got way more than 50 games on my special...

Like Riggs said proper ball maintenance is crucial.  Just by wiping your ball of with a micro-fiber towel and cleaning the ball after you bowl.  Remember it doesn't do you any good to let the oil build up and soak into the coverstock you'll be amazed at how much longer the performance of a ball will last.
