ATTITUDE SHIFT review from Storm staffer
« on: October 24, 2007, 11:56:08 AM »
My first reaction to the ATTITUDE SHIFT is a simple WOW! This ball looks like it's going to be a favorite for me.

I drilled it last Friday and, as I said in an earlier thread, had an unfortunate first shot with it at a tournament Saturday - the thumb insert came flying out. Use more super glue dummy! (I drill my own equipment.) Reglued more carefully, I had no problems in a quick test drive today on a second shift house condition. I will post additional info as I use it in our PBA Experience league and tournaments with challenge conditions.

I drilled my ATTITUDE SHIFT with a PIN-PAP distance of 5 1/8 inches and a KEY-PAP distance of 3 1/8 inches. The pin is above my bridge and the key is a little to the right of my thumb. The drilling is very close to my SHIFT, which I like a lot, with the key being a little bit farther right on my SHIFT. The drilling angle of about 60 degrees is close to my SPECIAL AGENT, but it has the pin under my ring finger.

I used all three balls today to try to gauge the differences. In general, I would say the ATTITUDE combines the best of the SPECIAL and the SHIFT - it gets through the heads like the SHIFT, which is a tad cleaner than the SPECIAL, even with the ATTITUDE's 2,000 Abralon surface that is the same as the SPECIAL. The ATTITUDE rolls harder in the midlane than the SPECIAL and absolutely never stopped for me, but the move is not a flip - more a continuous hard arc. My SHIFT, which is shiny, makes a really strong move and sometimes quits, making it a somewhat conditional ball - devastating when right, but one that you have to know when to use. My SPECIAL sometimes will not get down the lane and burns up too much. My ATTITUDE got down the lane fairly easily, especially considering it's a strong drilling, a 2,000 Ab cover and was a second shift house condition in a center that uses a very thin oil. I honestly did not expect to be able to get a good reaction with the ATTITUDE on that condition but it was almost perfect. It never quit once (no plaque 10s), it did not overeact off the dry when I got it wide (highest I got was a 4 pin and it tripped a couple of 4s), and it rolled clean in the oil with no squirt. The move through the pins was more like a SURE FIRE than anything out of the AGENT line - in other words, pins stayed low rather than flying around. No solid 9s (had one that messenger'd out) and no ring 10s.

I can't wait to try the ATTITUDE on some tougher conditions.

great review riggs. So it's kind of like a stronger sure fire... Interesting. Sounds like I might have to check this ball out

Stronger than SURE FIRE with a different movement - break is more pronounced but it is not skid/flip - SURE FIRE to me is just a great strong rolling, control ball that I've had best success playing out with, where ATTITUDE seems more like a get in and get after it ball.

FYI - I am told Derek Eoff has been using the Attitude Shift in leading the USBC Masters qualifying.

Is the backend uncontrollable?  I love balls that look like they are getting off the highway when they almost missed their exit, but you seem to be describing a ball that if thrown on a house shot would be way too aggresive and way too unperdictable.  Do you agree?

I wish there were some demo days in New Jersey so i can try some of this equipment out first  If anyone knows of any please let me know.  Or at least a website that i can find them at.

Nice review Jeff! And love reading your bowl across america journals in BTM.

When Storm did their 'demo' days in OKC at Boulevard Bowl/Anne Marie Duggan's pro shop, I was talking to Tyler and he commented on how great this ball would be. He likened it to my Gamebreaker on the midlane movement but how much more versatile this ball would be across the conditions. There is no way I could use the Gamebreaker on any second shift anywherem much less past the second game in a series with fresh conditions.

Tyler did say this ball would be the ONE to look for this upcoming season. I have to say I believe him.

Not to be hatin' on ya bra, but you could use the dull Attitude at at least 3 houses in OKC.  Yukon, Edmond, Heritage all have the biggest puddles in the middle that I have ever seen, bigger than the Valdez!  Come join Wigger's team on Wednesday, holy crap.  I never move left!  My box Special Agent is too long!!!

actually the backend is VERY controllable...not skid/flippy at all...a very big arcing motion...

Like i said before, its a ball i don't have to worry about it turning the corner or not from the inside angles...so that makes it a winner in my book

Dude, are you left handed?  When I get off the freeway, I'm curving to the right.  I don't want/need any balls that curve to the right.  I don't think the Attitude is a "go sideways" ball.  Hooks early and often.  Gotta get in the oil and hook the lane!!!!  I might have to get me one of these!!

BBock, re-read my report. My test was on a second shift house pattern at a hooking house And I wrote: "it did not overeact off the dry when I got it wide (highest I got was a 4 pin and it tripped a couple of 4s), and it rolled clean in the oil with no squirt."

One of the things that amazed me about the ATTITUDE was that I could use it on that pattern with no trouble controlling it. It is NOT skid/flippy or hard to control.

thanks.  I just bought 1.  Now to decide on how to drill this attitude.  I know I want it to go long, but im not sure how long it already goes with a conservative drill
