Storm Spectre Review

Surface 2000 Abralon

The new Storm Spectre gives you the typical reaction that Storm is known for; Clean, Long and Angular.  The specs of the Vector core (2.54, 0.050) are very similar to the Hyroad Inverted Fe Core (2.57, 0.046).  If you are a fan of the Hyroad series and sometimes feel that there is too much length or not quite enough hook then look no further.  The Spectre covers that gap very well giving a larger footprint in the oil from the more dynamic core and slightly stronger cover in the R3S Pearl.  On my THS (44ft), the Spectre is a little too clean and responsive to the friction as it doesn't blend the wet/dry as well as I wanted even with the 2000 abralon grit surface.  This is a great breakdown ball ((game 2 or game 3) for league in my center.  It fits that gap as a step down from a lot of the stronger asymmetrical pearls such as the Dark Code where as a Hyroad Pearl would be too long for me.  On a 39ft sport pattern, I saw a lot of angle with the Spectre as I needed to move in towards the middle of the lane after transition.  A majority of lane surfaces by me are high friction so I tend to lean more heavily on these type of balls.  When the stronger core balls, such as a phaze 3 or Dark Code got too early and slow down lane, the Spectre really shined.  It gave me easy length while still being strong enough to handle the higher volume of oil.  I can see myself using this ball a lot on medium patterns or house patterns where the lane surface gives a lot of friction or the volume of oil is on the lower side.  The R3S cover takes very well to surface changes so don't be afraid to knock some of the shine off of this one if you are seeing too much length out of it.
