Review on the Storm Prodigy (lengthy)
« on: June 16, 2010, 11:11:05 AM »
Hey everyone Im here to give you the report on the Storm Prodigy.
My specs:
BALL SPEED: 18mph
PAP:  5  1/4  right x  1  3/8 up
DRILLING:  5" pin to PAP  x  3  1/4" cg - PAP (pin under bridge cg kicked right)
REVS- Medium - High

HOUSE SHOT #2: (house shot 1 please see www.videoballreviews.com)
38 ft - Half and Half - Synthetic fronts and wooden backends. Scores are typically very high scoring at this center. But the shot tends to play on the dryer side. On the fresh shot I had to stand 45 with my feet and target 20 at the arrows breaking it off at the 8 board. I had to keep my speed up as if I slowed it down the ball hooked early and kept going. The ball carried great rolled very strong off the dry but not uncontrollable. In the 4 game block that I bowled I only left 2 ten pins and ended up shooting 970.

SPORT SHOT #2 CHAMELEON: (Sport pattern #1 Scorpion please see www.videoballreviews.com)
In the PBAx league I rolled this ball on the CHAMELEON pattern and it seemed to play a bit on the dryer side all across the lane. I was able to start at 18 with my eyes breaking it off at the 10 board but surprisingly I was able to get the ball out to 8/7 range and still hit the pocket. As the night went on I moved about 3 boards every game and had the same ball motion very smooth and continuous all throughout the lane. This ball is going to be a hit on the PBA tour this year for the fact the ball is alot of midlane and a smooth continuous hook throughout the lane.

MY THOUGHTS:
With my high ball speed this ball fits my game very well with the duller surface and smooth continuous hook. This ball will be the 1st ball out of my bag on the fresh to read the midlane and clean backends. After rolling this ball for 2 weeks several bowlers have said to me that they love this ball motion and it reminds them of the Ebonite Mission with how it reads the patterns and the continuation that it has.
Where this ball fits in my arsenal:  Its under my Invasion as the Invasion handles more oil then the Prodigy but its above my Virtual Gravity with all 3 having similar pin under drillings. Thanks for taking the time to read my review.. I will take any questions or comments you may have.

Exactly what I wanted to hear, I am getting the itch to buy something and almost pulled the trigger on a VE. I will wait a few weeks for this ball.

TJ...does the ball come "dull" or is it shiny OTB? I'm curious about the Prodigy and hoping to find a place for it in my bag. Thank you!

Mike its 4000 abralon no polish but apearance, if there is an inbetween to that question thats what it would be. Its not shiny by any means but on the otherhand its not super dull.

Great review Tj. In your opinion, do you think the prodigy will have that same, continuous, non stop motion that the special agent had?
Also, since I'm on here.. What's the release date?? I think this will be one of storms more popular releases.

Miggs watch our video on videoballreviews.com. Britton does the comparison between the prodigy and the special agent and we found that the prodigy is more continuous on today''s oil patterns. The release date is June 23rd

I completely agree with TJ.  I just got mine punched up recently(link to pic in sig).  I too find the ball to be overall more agressive front to back than the Gravity and Energy.

I think it will be a big hit here within the next few weeks.

Is it stronger than the Reign of Fire too, or about the same?  Speaking in terms of overall hook, since I'd have to at least assume the backend is stronger.

Ill hop in on this one...with both balls at the out of box surface, the reign of fire will be earlier and smoother.  Now this is 1000 (ROF) vs 4000 (Prodigy) so its like comparing an apple to a grapefruit.  Taking the ROF to 4000 will definitely make it push farther down the lane, and be a few boards weaker overall than the Prodigy.  TJ has thrown his reign of fires more than myself so he can chip in also with what he has seen.

for me, at the same surface and similar layouts,  I found the prodigy to grab much sooner with a much more aggressive motion in the back than the ROF.  I hope to get a video up soon myself.  I may compare it to the gravity and ROF.

That's what I was thinking guys, I'm just still not 100% clear on which would be stronger overall.  At the same surface it sounds like the Prodigy, maybe still even if OOB.  I know TJ said it's stronger than his Virtual Gravity so that sounds pretty strong.
