Title: Storm Trend
Post by: keegan.mier on June 10, 2020, 01:09:26 AM
New Signature Line ball. Belmo once again, Piston Core from the Pro-Motion, and R2S Pearl.

Darn. I was able to get my hands on a Pro Motion Tour - same Piston core but with R2X Solid - and the ball is awesome. Much better motion than the SPEC cover and looks more continuous.  It’s an overseas release only for now. Hopefully we get some sort of solid here with the Piston core.

Chad has on his Instagram a video of him throwing a shiny dark new release. I'm guessing IQ Tour Nano Pearl approved May 26th. Could be wrong, but that's why it's a guess.

Yeah, the ball in McLean's video isn't the Trend. Going off of the stock photo from the approved list it looks like this ball is blue with some teal and maybe cream colored swirls. Nothing real fancy, but still looks good.

It's kind of crazy how Storm just puts a bunch of different existing cores and coverstocks together and end up with great products most of the time. Not sure if that says more about how good and versatile their stuff is or how overstated the idea about having to really fine-tune core and coverstock combinations is.

While it seems crazy.  Other companies have done similar tactics.  I remember Columbia using Super Flex and now the Bend It covers.  Brunswick did this alot with the Powerkoil and Activator covers.  Ebonite with the Trimax and GB covers.  We could go on and on really.  But it does seem like the R2 line of covers have been around a very long time.

Apparently the Trend is a Korean release. One of the main people that gets overseas releases posted info on it today

Seen that, I wonder if this is one of those release in Korea 3 weeks before the US deals or not. I forget the ball, but I was thinking that happened last year.

It’s just being released early in Korea. It has been designated as a catalog ball which means it’s a worldwide release not private label. I got found on bowlingkorea.com and stormrotokorea Instagram page

It's better for the dealers in international stuff if people think stuff is overseas only, they'll pay more money for it then.  I've learned to wait for official announcements first.

Doesn’t make too much sense to release a new belmo line ball overseas only.

They released a few timeless balls overseas, Timeless Tour and Timeless Space to name some, and there was more recently a ProMotion Tour.

Yes i get that, what I meant by that was it doesn't make sense to introduce a NEW belmo line overseas.  its a signature ball, the first one should be a stateside.

It’s not a new line. A new name sure but it’s still the Piston core from the PRO-Motion, which unlike with motiv, which I have never understood, means they are the same line.

Timeless and the Drive had the same core and those weren’t the same line, if I recall

well i stand corrected.

Although i think the namesake would still hold true in this aspect, even if it is the same line.  If Belmo's name is on the ball, and its the first ball to have that name, i'd still imagine it would be a US release.  and the other balls would follow would be overseas.  Similar to the pro-motion tour or the countless overseas timeless'.

Side note, are there any versions of the drive that are overseas? i never saw any but don't look that hard.

Storm Trend
Layout – 55 x 5 x 25
So far this ball is the best Belmo ball to date!  When selecting a layout I try to start with one I know but also will work when this ball is best used.  This ball being the same cover as the HyRoad Pearl and having a stronger core, my guess is I will use this in the middle of blocks when I’m trying to create angle and shape it.  I personally had to knock the shine off of it with a 2000 pad.  For me this ball is very clean and has a continuous arc down lane.  It is definitely not a flip or snap motion, very controllable!  This is a must have for higher friction surfaces and medium to drier lane conditions!

The Trend is the newest ball from the Belmo and Storm Collaboration and unlike some of the previous releases, this ball does not disappoint!  As a fan of more rolly cores, I enjoyed the Pro-Motion quite a bit but couldn't find a great step down once that ball got a little lazy down lane.  Where the Phaze 3 was not strong enough and the Astrophysix was too strong, the Trend fits perfectly in that gap!  The strength and reliability of the R2S coverstock along with the Piston Core give a strong yet unique reaction that Storm has not seen in quite some time.  No longer will I have that gap of over under ball reaction when I still need a strong core.  For all of you who feel that sometime the Phaze 3 just isn't strong enough in the oil, the Trend is the go to ball.  I will be using this ball a lot on sport patterns and other patterns where the oil volumes are higher than typical league.
