Street Rod Solid

I posted my review of the Street Rod solid last week after shooting 1104 (825 for the first 3 games). Well, I wanted to update that last evening in the same league, I shot 1087 (831 for the first three games) with the same ball!! So far the last eight games of league with this ball I have averaged 273.8. Not to mention, I used it for about half of the regional tournament in York this past weekend where I finished 23rd with a 221.5 average on the Cheetah.

PLEASE DO NOT OVER LOOK THESE BALLS!!! They are great pieces far out performing their price point. They give the bowler alot of control over the lane with out over or under reacting. If you are looking for a great control ball with a great price, drill up a Street Rod. You will not be disappointed!!!

There has not been alot of talk about these balls, so I wanted to try to start some buzz. Has anyone else had success with these??? And if so, share your scores and success stories.

take a minute to look at his review of the ball in the storm section and you'll see that he drilled it 5 x 5 3/8

Tommy, I posted a review on the SR PEARL stating how much I liked it after having some nice success in regionals earlier this year. Sorry - not trying to bring up bad memories for both of us.  Still use the SR PEARL a lot.
SR SOLID I haven't been able to use much because box finish requires a lot of oil for me.
Did you alter the surface of your SR SOLID?

I have found the Street Rod to give a reaction much like my Screamin' Banshee. The cover is the same, and over all movement is very similar. I found out of the box, the Street Rod to be a little too aggressive in the midlane for me. After polishing with step 2, then step 3, I then hit the ball on all four quadrants with a well used 2000 abralon pad, and got the reaction I was looking for. The reactor cover gets through the fronts rather easily. The ball just absolutely blends out a walled house shot for me, as well as gives me control on tougher patterns. I used this ball at the RPC in Indiana this year, with great success. It was a key reaction to getting me into the finals. Just last night, I shot 267 (missed seven pin), 280, 278, 279 for 1104 four game block with this ball!!! Whether I am bowling on tough conditions, or a walled house shot, this ball is in my bag.

The new Street Rods simply out perform their price point. This new hot line will be a favorite among many styles of players, as well as give Stormchasers a new reaction style on the lanes. Stop by your local Storm VIP pro shop and ask for the new Street Rod!!!

I may not be a staff player but i used the Street Rod at Nationals in Dbls and it was more aggresive than Storm suggest on their website for me (more of a Medium ball), I would call it a mild Cell.  Smooth and readable and not over under as others stated.  When it begam to get early and lose reaction after Doubles I switched to a Higher Pin Rapid Fire Solid that was polished.  Shot 2006 at nationals with these balls ... Cell for team, Street Rod Solid Dbls and Rapid Fire Singles.

I can see where the box finish may be a little too strong. Yes, as Keith showed my review (thanks buddy), I did alter the box finish a bit. I remembered back to when the Reactor cover was brand new to us, and I knew that it read the mids very strong as to why I altered the surface to give the ball a broken in feel. This did that for me. It was like I just added 20 games to the ball, so now it doesn't read to early. I did read your review about the SR pearl when you originally posted it. One of the fellow pro shop staff at our center loves his SR pearl. He keeps his @ 2000 abralon, to give him a little earlier, smoother transition than his shined T-Road pearl (15 lbs. as well). He used it to beat me one out of the two games we bowled last night on the Chameleon. It was our last night of summer PBAX league, and I used the Street Rod for three out of the four games I bowled. The last game I went to a Secret Agent with the same drilling to go around the pattern a little bit more, as the second pair was broke down in the fronts. I decided to switch balls instead of changing releases to continue with the Street Rod.

Interesting Tommy.  I may have to try smoothing my SR SOLID a little.  For sure, I agree with your assessment that SRs should NOT be overlooked.  Huge value in these two.  Control and power at a moderate price.  Especially good on a wet-dry house shot.

Now if I was going to look at a mild solid ball, would the street rod solid be a good ball for the cheetah? Or should I try to pick up a jolt solid?

Without knowing anything about your game, I would suggest going with a Street Rod solid over a Jolt solid just because of the cover material. The SR will be more forgiving to the oil line than the Jolt will with the Accu-tread cover. The Accu-tread was and still is a great cover stock for most oils and some conditions(I still carry a few balls with that cover when bowling local tourneys and house conditions), but the Reactor cover on the Street Rod is much stronger, and doesn't give you as much dart and dive reaction as what the Accu-tread will on the oil that we see on the regional tour. Control is what you are looking for on the PBA patterns, and various other sport patterns as well, and the Street Rod will give you control on these types of patterns.

Thanks tommy, well right now there are 2 jolt solids on ebay for a really good price, I am on a budget so something cheaper would be good. I have a too hot drilled label, and an original hot rod drilled pin under ring, cg on top of thumb 1/2 inch to the right and it roles pretty smooth, but can be a little flippy with some polish on it. So thats why I was thinking of a mild solid to read a little sooner. Also, if I do land up getting a mild solid reactive, I plan on putting a little surface on it too. Now another question is, I am wanting to put the pin below my ring, but what pin length should I be looking at? The first jolt has a 3 1/3 inch pin and the second one has a 1 inch pin. Let me know thanks. "Stats are in profile"
