Storm Tropical Breeze- pink and purple
« on: March 29, 2012, 07:44:55 PM »
Does anyone throw this ball?  I just got one for dry lanes. I drilled it leverage 1:30 drill because I didn't think it would matter with how the core is in the ball.. The ball really doesn't flare at all... It doesn't really roll that great off my hand..Doesn't hook in oil... and doesn't cover many boards when they are dry..
But this ball carries everything.. If I just touch the head pin it seems to throw pins around like I have never seen ..
Anybody experience anything similar or have any thoughts about this ball??

I have the solid and the pearl. In all actuality, these two balls could be my league ball all season.

My solid is drilled 60 x 4 x 40 and the Pearl 50 x 5.5 x 60, a great one two combo. I bowl on AMF SPL 39'- 40' med/low volume less than 20 units. (it's actually 38' but the house starts oiling past the foul line about 18"- 20")

Along with the Tropical Heat Solid, I find these balls to be great money saver with very good roll and hitting power. when others are throwing $150-$200 equipment, I'm right there with them with these balls under a $100.

It's like when I first threw the hyroad when it first came out...It was so good, it felt like it was cheating using these balls.

How much flare are you getting out of these balls with those layouts?  Do you have a flare increasing weighthole??

Flare? Not so much. Kinda like my spare ball lol. Even with the P1 hole, it doesn't make that much of a difference on the solid. Pearl has no hole.

Two things...first of all a bowling ball does NOT hook in oil...it slows down but NO bowling ball hooks in oil

Secondly....the diff on the Breeze is approx .010 which will NOT create much flare if any. Polys usually are closer to .020.

Use a bowling ball what it is designed to do. Surface dictates length....

I am strongly considering picking one of these up to play the twig (between the gutter and the first arrow).  It's  a line I usually have for myself, especially when all the guys with the latest big hook ball are standing in front of the left gutter.

I'm thinking cg in grip center and pin over bridge so the ball goes straight and makes a very slight move when it hits the friction.  Any thoughts?

a P1 hole actually decreases core dynamics by about 20%

I found the Tropical Breeze to be one of the most controllable reactive balls available for dry lanes.  There used to be a pretty big gap between the low end equipment and dropping to urethane.  Many people found the old Tropicals too flippy.  The Breeze really fills a hole nicely.
We did a complete review of the Breeze pearl.  It actually was capable of quite large entry angles, even though it was smooth off the spot.  We put it alongside other Storm stuff using Digitrax and you can really see the equipment compliment each other quite nicely.

Of course, if you try to use this on heavier than medium or medium-light, it's going to skate.  As someone mentioned, use it for what it's meant for and it will work great.

I have a question: How Tame can you drill this ball for short-Light oil THS? I just picked this ball (Breeze Pearl) and I'm contiplating my drilling options for my 3.5 over & 1 Up PAP, I'm considering a 5 inch Pin to PAP with a 30 degree swing but I am fearfull this might make this a dead straight boat anchor, any suggestions Please?

We would need to know more about how you throw the ball...but if you have a 3.5" over PAP you probably have a very low track.  If this is the case your ball is storing quite a bit of energy.  When you take a core that is already weak and drill it weak, you can end up with a reaction that can be very touchy, especially on a SHORT pattern.  Unless you have a very unique situation you want the ball to bleed off a little bit of energy before making its turn.  The ball flares very little as is, so I would make the pin distance a little closer, say 4" and use a weight hole to increase or decrease downlane motion as needed.

Many times balls that are super weak don't roll well on shorter patterns.  They are designed for situations where the ball needs to get through the first 30 feet.  When the backends are strong and you try to use these balls they can be hard to control unless you have lower ball speed.

After posting I thought about it somemore and I'm thinking along the same lines as you, it's a 3.5 Pin and I use the Grip-loc Thumb so I'm going with the Pin under my Middle finger and place the Cg in the Thumb quadrant for about a 1/4 positive, I was considering a 4x4 but that would give me an early arc & roll, I'm looking for a Hockey stick reaction and I think the PSA in the strong side will give that to me, thanks for the reply.
