Title: switched from 15 to 16 lbs.
Post by: ryguy119 on May 21, 2017, 07:53:15 PM
I recently just switched back to 16 lbs.  I am noticing a big difference in my carry. I seem to get the ball down earlier with the heavier weight, which is good for today's game. My speed stayed pretty close to the same. Ball just seems to hit the pins harder and knocks out the pesky 10's. Maybe just mental but I feel if I am able to throw 16 why not.  I recently heard Randy Pederson mention he went back to 16. That got me thinking and I am happy I switched. I have been throwing the Alpha Crux and No Rules Pearl at 16. Just ordered the Dark Legend and the Desert Ops to complete my 16 pond arsenal.  Also found a old Blue Angle that is 16 lbs in my basement. Glad I switched.  Wondering if anybody out there has done the same.  I know almost everybody in my area throws 15.

All other things equal the heavier ball will hit harder.  However things are seldom equal.  Most people generate more speed and higher revs when they drop to 15.  In todays high friction environment these increases offset the drop in weight for many people.  In your case this wasn't happening.

I've slowly started to switch over since my Pitch Black that has been huge is already 16. I don't feel a difference nor is there much of a difference in speed/revs etc. My favorite thing about 16 lbs is that no filler balls often have lower RGs and more differential (Hy-Roads, true urethanes, new Quantums).

not much difference in diff between 16 and 15.  When I dropped from 16 my carry was not impacted adversely because my speed and revs did increase, both of which I needed.  I think 16 can still be an advantage on very long patterns like the Badger for many people.
