Rapid Fire Pearl vs Roto-Grip Illusion?
« on: October 08, 2008, 05:52:50 AM »
Anyone have both, with roughly similar drillings?
What's your release style and how do you compare them?
Thanks.

I don't have either, but I've drilled up both for multiple people.  Darn close balls as far as I can see.  I think the Rapid Fire Pearl is a touch stronger in oil - but not much.  Reaction seems almost the same.  Unless you were to surface them differently or have dramatically different layouts I'd say it's an either-or.

Why compare these two balls when one is a solid and the other is a pearl? When you compare "likes" you'd want to match this ball to a solid Street Rod (SRS). The Rapid Fires carry a bigger differential which will translate into a stronger ball. I've throw a SRS drilled to do something and I own one that is drilled to keep me from sliding 39 and sending it to 1. The one I threw at Open House was aggressive and I've seen my friend throw his and it changes direction for his 300RPM release.

I have thrown a friends Grand Illusion (GI), pretty sweet! Similar to the SRS the GI picks the lane up very well. Both balls picked the breakpoint up well and did not quit as they came off the spot. Basically, it boils down to what you want for real.

Not according to the info on the ball description itself: http://www.ballreviews.com/Reviews/Reviews.asp?ManufacterID=15&BallID=849

Uh, no.  Illusion and Rapid Fire Pearl are both pearls, both with similar coverstocks, and similar - not identical rg/diff.  Very valid comparision.

Mr Straight Ball, he was asking about comparing the Rapid Fire Pearl with the original Illusion, which also had a pearl surface, not the Grand Illusion.

Dan, my brain has moved to the GI. ROFL

Correction, compare it to a Street Rod Pearl then.
