My drilling choice on a Virtual Energy
« on: November 02, 2009, 08:05:38 AM »
What do you guys think about a 4.5 x 5 with a 2" pin buffer?  I'm about 16mph at about 350ish rpm's.

Other balls in my bag are an RS1, Venom, and Cell Pearl.

IMO you should put the key closer to your VAL.  The cover will ensure it doesn't roll too early.

I have a virtual Energy drilled just like that.

You're going to need some friction to get to hook, so I typically am more outside with it initially.

i agree with the other two posters.

i have a rouge cell drilled similar and i needed to sand it more then i wanted to, to make it move on some oil.

What distance from the PAP would you guys recommend for the mass bias then?

kick the key closer to your val. how close depends on your game and how you want it to roll.

you might want the ball to be tame on the back or smooth. but if not i would kick the key toward the val which tends to make the ball react much better in the backends.

IMO you can put the key on your VAL as long as you go pin over fingers.  I did this with mine and I definitely wouldn't consider it too even.  It still has a very strong backend reaction.  If you want more even, put the pin below your fingers.

^^^ i was thinkn of doing this to my VG... pin under bridge and try to get the key on VAL.   will this "tame" it a lil????  also need to stay away from putting weight holes in, 9 outa 10 times i flare to and past them..

I know what you mean.  Asymmetrical ball + 7"+ flare core + pin < 5-1/2" to PAP above fingers + weight hole inside VAL + hand = flare rings around the entire ball!!!  I don't think I've had that problem with the pin below the fingers though.  With a weight hole, I have no problem putting the pin 6" from PAP and I tend to track high.

You want a little tame?  Put the pin under middle finger(I assuming this is 5-3/4" to 5-7/8" from PAP), key on VAL, weight hole off of PAP if necessary.

i track low with a pap around 4" - 4 1/2" and an 1 1/2" up.. cant remember exactly.  also kinda spin the ball a lil...  right now im have'n great success with the pins drilled out in the middle finger and also pins 2 1/2" above fingers.  these are also on mid priced balls except for 1 special agent..
have a virtual i HATE with bout 11 games so im gona plug and redrill

ok so would everything be in a straight line across or is the key droped down???  if so isnt this call a zero degree layout or something????

No, the key is down.  If it were straight across, the pin to PAP would be 6-3/4" and the mass bias would be close to the PAP.  DON'T DO THIS.

Allright, so I'm thinking 5x3.5.  Should put the pin a bit over the bridge.  How's that for house with some carry down?

I'm looking for something to hook nasty when my cell pearl isn't getting enough friction on the backend.

That sounds good.  I haven't thrown mine on much carrydown.  I get some decent midlane OOB, so I think it will handle carrydown.  You might want to take the polish off and sand to 2000 or 4000 Abralon, I'd try it OOB first.
