Ace help
« on: June 10, 2007, 10:52:52 PM »
Hey everyone I need some help. I have an Ace that is about 3 years old and I think it is die'n. Works great for about a game and a half and then sucks up to much oil and wont turn at all. No matter were i start play with it the same thing happens. Tried it all, polish, abrilon, back to box and I'm out of ideas. Love the ball when it is good and don't want to get rid of it so was wondering if anyone on here had any ideas?

Get the oil out and have the ball re-polished. Pro Thane LT responds very well to this treatment. Just did it with my Eraser PP (same cover as the Ace) some days ago, and the ball immediately became much more aggressive and responsive to the lane - and it was surely not soaked. Give the hot water bath (or sevarl tours ) a try, should get the ball back on the track.

While it may need a rejuvenation procedure, I wonder about your statement:
"Works great for about a game and a half and then sucks up to much oil and wont turn at all"

That says you hit carrydown, not that the ball is oil-soaked. If it works for whatever length of time, then it works ... If it's oil soaked, then it shouldn't work for that game and a half. If it's tracked up, it'll hook early and hit weak, all the time, unless you encounter heavier head and midlane oil.

Have you tried going inside or around the carrydown?

Well carrydown is a problem definitely. I have tried to move right and go straight up 10, nothing but corner pins. Another thing that is leading me to think it is something with the cover, beside the bowling messing up, is if I don't clean it after a set it is dead the next time I get it out. If I clean it every game or 2 in practice I can throw it all day long and not have a problem until it gets to much midlane.

I would try that hot water bath and then get the ball brought back to out of box condition. I did that with my Passion twice so far and both times it became just like new.

If carrydown is an issue and the Ace just does not work well with its OOB polished surface, then you might try a sheen surface after oil extraction. Depending opn you style, I'd try 1.500 grit or less. The ball will read the lane earlier, yielding a more arcing overall hook shape, but midlane control and ball's finish on the greasy back end should improve.
