Arsenal Question! We All Love These :p
« on: November 10, 2009, 07:38:17 AM »
My arsenal goal is to have well balanced one, balls that are both rolly and angular to cover everything from a whole lot of oil to none.  I think the one piece I need is a weaker-ish solid ball.  The only solids I have are a Virtual Gravity and a Dimension.  Everything else I have is a pearl ball.  They work well, don't get me wrong, but sometimes I need something that's a little less squirty and a little more controlled in the back part of the lane.  Also, I want this ball to be THE benchmark ball in my bag.  I can grab it, throw it and decide to go from there.

That said, what are good weaker solid balls?  The two I am looking at right now are the old Diablo and Sure Fire.  The cover on the Sure Fire is a bit strong I think, so the Diablo has my eye right now.  What do you all think?

For your reference, my arsenal is posted in my profile.

I've seen 2 Furiouses/Furiousodes/Fuiorsesesesses (stupid plurals), and they were both way too angular for what I'm looking for.  I want something that's naturally archy/smooth.  The recent Storm stuff is like watching a boomerang lol.

If you want to go back a few generations for a Storm, controlled, benchmark ball IMO you are better off with a Dark Thunder, Thunderstruck, or T-Road Solid.  Pick your coverstock poison (Monsoon, Reactor, or R2S) - sand to 4000 and lay out mild (5x4 pin under) and you should have what you are looking for.

Between the Diablo and the Sure Fire I'd go with the Diablo but only due the solid Reactor.  The core is pretty dynamic for a control ball but the solid reactor was pretty slow off of the breakpoint.

The Sure Fire is a hybrid as well and is very smooth and controllable, has been my benchmark ball for the last year and a half.  I have not throw the Diablo so can not give you a comparison of the two.

Good Luck

Look at a Nomad Solid, great benchmark solid, and if thats too strong for what your looking for then a Mars or Pluto.

I'd go with a Pluto.

Sure fire was easy length and snappy backend for me. But then again I had it drilled for length. Medium OIL ball definitely. The hybrid cover was definitely tunable...my friend took his to 2000 abralon and it was more earlier and predictable.

Coincedentlly....I have one (Sure Fire) that I'm not using anymore (16lb) if your interested.

im surprised this hasnt been said yet... The 900 Global Lunatic hands down. Staying with Storm/Roto id suggest the Sure Fire or Street Rod Solid

Thanks for all the thoughts guys.

How similar are the Sure Fire and Hy-Road?  They both have the same coverstock with different cores.  I like my Pyro a whole heck of a lot, and my T-Road Pearl is delegated to basically a tournament ball because it is crazy finicky on a THS. I've had a few drillings on the T-Road Pearl before I settled in with my RICO, which is quite nice for the Cheetahs and Vipers out there.

Not sure where the love for this ball went, but I'd say the Rapid Fire Solid.  Just a smooth arching medium oil ball. =D
