tropical storm vs. hot rod original

i need a dry lane piece and found a online proshop that has the orig. hot rods in stock. how do these two balls compare as far as overall reaction, backend and hit? is the hot rod too much for dryer conditions or shorter patterns? both are around the same price point, so any feedback would be appreciated. ps-my stats are in my profile. mike

I have both the hot rod pro stock and the tropical.  The hot rod does not carry at all you can be high flush and still leave alot of weak hits. The tropical is a little better on the backend but it will leave alot of ringing 10's.  I would go with the tropical.

It depends on what you are trying to do.  The Tropical has a stronger cover but the core is designed to go longer.  Personally I like the Hot Rod better as it is a smoother roll than the Tropical IMO.  If I were you I'd go with option C - get a Hot Rod Hybrid or Hot Rod SS Pearl.  I own a Hybrid and it is the best drier lane ball I have ever owned.  It has a smooth predictable roll with Reactor hit.
