Thinking of trying out Storm
« on: April 08, 2009, 12:21:41 PM »
I was thinking about trying some storm balls.  Right now I use Hammer.  I'm a big fan of the Hammer Blade Pearl, the Anger, and the Sauce.

What ball would you suggest to start out with.  I'm not looking for a heavy oiler like a Virtual.

I also wanted to know why you guys chose storm over other companies (reasons other than ebonite balls die after 5 games).

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The Hy-Road is a good ball to start with as its a great medium all around piece. Its going to be pretty smooth overall and medium overall hook potential, very consistent reaction.

Also the Rapid Fire Pearl and Street Rod Pearl are both awesome pearl balls to consider for some movement downlane, the Rapid Fire Pearl being stronger overall and a little bit more on the backend, but the Street Rod Pearl is got some decent strength.

Just food for thought.

any of the T-road series would be a great start... even could get a used agent line ball to start

i was just given a Dark Thunder, polished and it is freakin amazing, it goes forever and then turns at 90, even on a burnt up house shot.  Its going to be a great ball for the shorter sport patterns i see in the summer

I agree with TC, pick a T-road ball depending on how much oil you want to use it on.

I use Storm because I've had good luck with them.  Why go experimenting when every time you like what you get?  Don't get me wrong, I'm not exclusively Storm, but usually when I have a need, Storm has a ball to fill it.

Anything in the T-Road series would be great, but I would personally recommend the Rapid Fire solid.  That ball can be anything you want it to be with layout/surface prep.  It's a tremendous piece.

So I'm considering the Hy-Road.  What other non-storm balls would you compare it to?  How strong is it compared to a Hammer Psycho or compared to a black widow?

Definately Hyroad.

It will make you want to toss those Hammers off the nearest bridge. It really can't be compared to a Hammer ball as none of them do what the Hyroad is capable of. Definite "Ball of the Year" candidate, a little early but a good pick.

The T Roads and Hy Road are very tough to beat.

The Tropicals are great on light oil.

The Fire Line is a great mid range ball for most people.

The Street Rods are great bang for your buck if you have above average hand and are looking for a good house shot ball.

Agreed.  It's really hard to put my Rapid Fire solid away.  I haven't thrown a Hy-Road but from watching a bunch of them the Hy-Road is very similar but not as long and a bit weaker overall.

I was a big fan of D/T and have matched up well with there equipment. When D/T was sold I decided to try Hammer. I have a few Hammer balls but I wanted to try something different. I took a look at Storm and saw the Hy-Road and I thought that this ball would do well where I bowl on Fridays.

My wife bowls in a traveling league and each week they raffle off a ball and the one particular week they raffle the Hy-Road. My wife gets one ticket and she wins it. She gave it to me and I just love this ball. I have it OOB and the ball is so smooth through the front and it just eats up the medium to lighter oil.

I was so impressed with this ball I went out and bought a 2nd Dimension about a month ago and I use this first ball out of the bag. When the lanes start to transition and dry up, I can pull out the Hy-Road and lose nothing. I have already shot 3 279 games with the Hy-Road and I only got the balled drilled at the end of February. This ball is an excellent choice.

+1 for the HyRoad.  I have mine at 4000 abralon, and it always gives me a look or makes it very clear if I need to ball up or down.  If you told me I could only keep one ball from my bag, the HyRoad would be it.

I just got my first Storm ball. I went with the second dimension. I would definitely recommend it.

I also think the Second Dimension is a good ball.
