thoughts about code red vs. intense
« on: November 06, 2017, 08:00:35 PM »
to everyone who has thrown the code red vs. the intense how did they compare to you as far as length and back end reaction? i've read and seen quite a few reviews that seem to be all over the board. i like the reaction that i get from my code red which has a decent amount of length and smooth move off the spot but is better playing a more direct line because of its smoothness. the only way that it carries well from a inside line is after the oil really breaks down enough to help the code red finish with enough angle to take out the ten pin. i drilled my intense to be smoother than the code red but there is no comparison with how much stronger the intense reads any dry boards compared to the code red. i haven't been on a shot where moving inside and carrying extremely well with the intense was a problem. it makes me think that i should have switched the layouts for the two.

if anyone else has tried the two let me know what you observed.

Not in the same universe for me.  Intense very strong and hooks throughout the lane, Code Red is very clean the whole way down the lane and strong but smooth on the backend.  Intense easily an arrow stronger.

ok, that's closer to the difference that i'm seeing between the two. it seemed strange to me that both bowling this month and the bowlers journal said that the intense has more length and was smoother than the code red at the breakpoint. even the staff members for storm's own review for the intense have differing views between the two.

now i'm wondering if i should plug my code red and redrill it with a lower drill angle and larger val angle so that it rolls earlier and doesn't go through the hook phase too quickly. although the code red was my favorite ball until the intense was released the one thing that i don't like about its reaction is that it seems to stand up too quickly and goes into more of a forward roll which tends to leave a lot of flat ten pins if i miss it at the bottom of my swing.

i'd like to have somewhat of a larger gap for the intense and code red and the two new pieces that i'd like to try, the daredevil danger and the all out show off. even though i can only make a guess at how the two newer balls will react i think that the code red needs to be kind of earlier so that it doesn't overlap too much with the newer equipment.

looking forward to your new videos luke and i appreciate you giving a heads up to guys like me! thanks again

Guess I am hi-jacking the ops post here. Looks like he done.

I bought the Intense but haven’t drilled it yet; still thinking about layout. Perhaps 4x4x3. Plus I’m still thinking about getting a Code Red as well or perhaps getting the Code Red First.

So I bowl league on this double oil at night, fresh and stripped in the morning and oil again at night which creates this carry down that’s really hard to create a bumper on before the end of game 3. I have rolled the Intense twice and it was a beast that needed oil for full functionality. After game 3, I was able to stand at 27 up 19 and it came back at 11 having to force it to get it out more.

Question:
So the Code Red is just smoother? Needs less oil to carry? A little weaker overall than the Intense. Ive never rolled a Code Red so I have no clue. I have a good idea of what capabilities the Intense may offer to me if I’m right or lucky guessing and that 4x4x3 unstable layout keeps it smooth.

I was thinking of using one of them to try and open up the pair or at least move in to keep the carry going. I’m sort of rolling the dice here for which one first and what purpose.

After putting 5-8 games on a Code Red on wood and synthetics, I'm not quite sure I would suggest it as a ball to move in and open up with. It seems like it prefers to be played more up the boards.

Code Red is just a smoother ball, that's the thing about both it and the Black is that they have pretty weak covers on them.  On Storm's hook scale, R2S is like 5th from the bottom and there's like 15 stronger covers that they make.  When you pair that with the strongest core they make, you get a ball that looks really aggressive to the eye but ultimately isn't.  You have to just trust it to get down the lane.  It looks like it's chewing and is going to turn sideways but then doesn't.  Intense on the other hand will, R3S is much stronger than R2S.

I just bought the Intense. I went with a pin even layout. For me the result is a smooth and strong arc. I have left OOB so far, I may change the cover , but I want to get a few more games on it untill I change it. I have had the C/R since Sept.  IMO -- I will start with my Intense then switch to my C/R after the lanes transition. I can play a more down/in or straighter with the C/R then my Intense.  It may very from bowler due to rev rate and style, but this is how they react for me.
