Torrent Replacement
« on: December 09, 2019, 11:30:22 AM »
From what you've seen, what are the best balls for playing the shim (hold)? The ball I've done that with more than any other was the Torrent. I've saved that ball a ton of times already, but it has finally been damaged beyond repair. I tried a Triton Elite recently as a replacement, but it reads the midlane a little too much and quits a bit more (buckets, flat 10, etc). This is not a knock on the ball. It's a fantastic ball in its own right, but it doesn't fit the role I need to fill. I like to keep my angles more in front of me with firmer speed on the fresh when possible and using surface to blend the lane. Currently I don't have anything that allows me to do that. Open to basically any brand, but figured I'd post it here since it is a Storm ball. Hy-Road comes to mind since it is relatively close spec wise and I would keep the surface low grit to keep up. IQ Tour also doesn't seem like a bad option, but I know it isn't the best ball for THS. Might not matter though since I'm not looking to cover boards. I planned on using the same layout as my Torrent which is around 70x5.5x70.

I know for me personally, I wish they'd bring back the Booster core. I've never matched up with the HyRoad core.

I noticed recently that the Ikon core in the Idol series is very similar in shape to the Booster core. Number wise, the Ikon core is lower rg and has higher diff but I'd look into the Idol Pro. With the long and smooth layout you used it could work pretty well

Torrent is R2S solid -- I bet an iQ Tour with strong drill will be close, or Roto Winner Solid.  I bet you get on eBay you could find another Torrent.

Ahem, if I may...

Ordnance Solid.

Looking at the BTM numbers for their Length/Back End/Hook ratings...the Ordnance Solid may be the closest thing to the Torrent.

Closest thing out from Storm right now based on BTM's reviews is the All-Road and it is a bit longer and more angular than the Torrent.  You want something smoother...

Little bit of an update. Decided to drill another Match Up Black same as the Torrent and it does what I needed. Not EXACTLY the same, but pretty darn close. Not ruling out some of the options discussed above though because its always nice to have stuff that rolls similar to all-time favorites.
