Care and feeding of a Special Agent
« on: March 11, 2007, 01:26:49 PM »
After hearing so many good things about this ball, I'm heavily thinking about getting one, but I've had such bad luck with early loss of reaction that I'm worried. It's been 3 years since I tried Storm, so though tI'd check for feedback on the new coverstock...
Thoughts?

Signature? I don't need no stinking signature...

I have thrown mine for only about 30 games now and I have no problems with it so far. I know alot of people that have a Special and love it! I don't think you will go wrong with this ball at all!!

I have also thrown a bunch of games with my SA.  I clean it using Clean N' Dull and I take it to the pro shop to hit it with 2000 Abralon every now and then.  I definitely haven't noticed any loss of reaction, only insane pin carry.

I second the cleaning. Be sure you clean it after every session. Even if you only throw a few balls with it. I've never had a problem with a ball dying out due to overuse. I clean them after every use, and have them rejunivated after 100 or so games, or at the end of the season.

I actually took my SA up to 4000, so I could get a little later read on it, but I love it as well. In fact I ordered a second one pin down for Reno in May.

My first one has more than 200 games on it now and it has not lost any reaction. Just got a comparison to a new one I drilled last week and they are almost exact in total hook, just different shape due to drilling differences.

I clean mine after very use with rubbing alcohol, use Simple Green every month or so and Abralon frequently to the desired surface - 2,000 or 4,000.

Mine kinda auto-polished itself . . but I don't clean it either, had bad experiences with ball cleaning.  I towel it off in between shots and I bleed the oil out every so often, but I definitely won't argue with the fact that it's a great ball.  Strong, but very controllable and versatile.  I can see why everybody's saying it's the ball to have at USBC Nats . .

I recently bought an SA.  I clean it at the end of the night after each session and it has not lost any reaction I can tell.

30 games and the SA died! Ran it in the dish washer and the reaction returned. This is a great ball but it is high maintenance.

Hmm...  I think you did something wrong because I've definitely put more than 30 games on mine.

It doesn't "die" as in no matter what you do it won't return to original form. You just have to clean it and use your Abralon pads as you use it on oil. But it doesn't take much with a 2,000 pad to bring back the hook - be careful!
