Noob here, question about Storm Soccer Ball
« on: March 08, 2007, 04:01:16 AM »
OK, so I've looked through the ball review section on these soccer storm balls, some say you can hook these, others say you can't. All I'm really looking for is some more feedback on this ball.
I am thinking of purchasing this ball, and would just like some more opinions. Thanks

I am pretty sure the ball is a polyester ball...  I think these were spiffy-looking spare balls.

They are just spare balls. Sure, you can hook them with a 2-fingered release or on burnt lanes, but if you want to hook go with something else. They do look sweet as a spare ball, especially when you throw your PAP on the center of one of the black or white spots.

Any ball has the potential to hook, if you look here http://www.stormbowling.com/pdf/drill_specs/basic.pdf
this will give you some idea of how the ball can be drilled. If your looking for a ball that is made to hook than this is not what you are looking for. If your a beginner bowler and want to throw a hook than you might want to look into getting something like the Jolt or something from the Tropical Line. Storm does a good job on their site showing the typical reaction of the ball on the lane.

For mere mortals like me, it is hard to hook a spare ball unless the lanes are really burnt out.  I would say if you are looking to hook the ball, grab a Tropical.  Those are quite fun.

I have the Soccer ball and on dry lanes this ball does move quite a bit.  I would agree if you are looking for a ball that will hook this should not be your choice for a typical house shot.

Here is a video to show that the ball hooks and the positive axis point made earlier

preciate all the help. as far as a used Storm soccer ball goes, how does 40 sound? in good condition.. I dont have any pics, so sorry about that. I was using my grandads (he passed away) bowling ball, its probally about 40-45 years old. Not sure of what brand it is, but its a every bit of 16lbs. And I guess its just too old to be bowled anymore, because it started to chip, So before it got too bad, I just decided to retire the ball, and now its just on display haha. 've been bowling since I was 10, but not consistantly, now I'm 22.

Like other have said this ball is mainly used as a spare ball and is made to go straight.  Now after seeing the video you know that it will hook but I have a feeling that you just throw it down the middle and are not worried about hook and if that is the case then you would be fine getting the soccer ball

Looks like my revs. I can hook a spare ball from 1 board to pocket at 19 mph. Haha, thats an awesome video although.

after playing with this ball a few games, I really noticed a difference, and consistancy with my game. I'm no professional, but normally I'll bowl a 160-170, but I've been bowling 190+ - 225s, which to me is a huge difference.
