Title: Updated Storm Core/Coverstock Chart
Post by: SVstar34 on May 22, 2018, 12:02:29 PM
Chad McClean just posted an updated chart.

Funny that some of their highest priced balls are made up from combinations of the middle of the road cores & cover, but if you get into the territory of the HyRoad(Nano) then you're saving like $75-80 bucks off of the MSRP of the Timeless/Drive & SonIQ balls.

Considering how much better Storm’s middle of the road covers/cores are than their strong counterparts, I’d argue it’s actually the high end asyms that are overpriced.

(Joking... kind of.)

The question is did he list AX16 twice in error or was one of the AX16 suppose to be something else not listed.  If it was just listed twice in error, is the R2X cover above or below AX16?

I thought NRG and Nano were the same.

They are the same. The R2S Nano on the Drive is a weaker variation.

What's interesting is Chad said this chart is only domestic releases. But R2S Deep Pearl and NRG Smooth have only been on overseas balls?? Haven't seen the Reactor XG before either

It's almost like they killed that cover. I could see R2X making a return in the premier line in a year. Not sure on the other lines, but I would like to see it used more often.

Yes! I can't believe it just vanished. It's on some of the most iconic Storm balls (Virtual Gravity; Marvel Pearl) - give me more of it!

Chad updated the chart, I've updated the original post with the new version.

Interesting placement of ERG, to me that always played on the weaker side like a slightly cleaner R2X with more backend

RAD-X and RAD-4 changed, maybe he could update 1 more time on Centripetal C3 in the IQ Tour vs Marvel Pearl

C3 is under the Stinger 2.0 core

I'm sorry, but after spending the last hour debugging a new web site, I'm in tech mode... I have to say it... This is a really great marketing slide, looks totally slick, but it is useless as a technical update. There's no info AT ALL given on the relative placement for each parameter from 1 thru 100... :(... Is there another technical slide anywhere by chance?

maybe I missed it; but I do not see the atomic core from the physiX on this chart...

Have to look at the chart in the link posted in the comments. Not the original post.

The ones at the top are the strongest. The ones at the bottom are the weakest. Pretty simple.

It's useless giving something a 1-100 rating, because covers are ever getting stronger, so technically what would be 100% the strongest, would be outdated with the next strongest cover. Comparing new charts to old charts is a nightmare when numbers have to be changed.

It makes much more sense, to just do the chart the way Storm is NOW doing them.

Giving a number in BTM is a different animal, because they are comparing ALL the manufactures, against each other. Ebonite's personal "95 rating" would surely differ from Storm's personal "95 rating". So rather than confuse customers trying to compare all brands across the board, with numbers, which would be totally subjective, it's best to just say what is strongest with-in their own line without a number.

Make sense?

I would love to see them make one that merges Storm and RG's charts for cross company comparison.

I’m gonna need the mad scientists at storm to take that g2 core and wrap it with the Spec coverstock. At least for the heck of it to see what it does

This is a great update! Thank you for sharing this.

It's remarkable that the original Reactor cover is weaker than Storm's urethane covers.

I wonder where the Monsoon coverstock would fit in? I know it's discontinued, but I am amazed that Reactor ended up that far down in the list?

Greetings all - hope everyone is doing well.

In our layoff I reached out to the Storm Technical Staff asking about an updated Core/Coverstock Chart for Storm/RG - Kendle and Hank were gracious enough to provide a strength chart and a ball chart for each brand - and wanted to share with everyone.

Both men are great ambassadors for bowling (would have gone crazy without the Morning Bolt content).

I hope we can get back to the lanes sooner rather than later, until then be well and stay safe!

-- Apparently the files are too large as an attachment...can anyone let me know how to include either the JPG or PDF in the thread?

I think you have to upload them to a separate image hosting site and then link them from that site in a post here. This particular site can be touchy at times with direct uploads.

Either that or try to save them as a different format, but if it's already JPEG then it's likely at it's smallest size.

That works, they open in in links to other sites. Thank you for getting this, it's always interesting to see how the company stacks up their coverstocks and covers.

I am interested in seeing the Aeroflo and Circuit cores. And introducing TractionX7 so soon after NeX and SPEC, is an interesting move, I am curious in how it will differ.

I think it'd be safe to assume that the Circuit core is what's in the Electrify Hybrid and Pearl that appeared on the approved list recently and expected to be new for the Hot line
