Another stupid question....
« on: April 14, 2011, 07:55:49 PM »
Thinking about attempting to get a second Virtual Energy, but I know they are discontinued (or close to it anyway). If I somehow can't find another one, what would be closer out of the two.....the Prodigy or the Victory Road?

Probably won't get back on here until Monday.

I think the reign supreme would be the next hybrid close to the energy.

What kind of reaction do you want compared to the first one.  Hyroad and Reign Supreme are hybrid covers, but won't roll quite the same.  How do you want it to roll?

I would agree that you should be able to find one if you know where to look.  Otherwise, I'd consider a Infinite Theory from Roto Grip or the Anarchy before either the Prodigy or the Reign Supreme.  The Prodigy rolls earlier and more even because it uses the same cover used on the Second Dimension, the Reign Supreme is a good step down from the Virtual Energy and might work depending on what you're hoping to get out of the ball.

If I were you, I'd go with the Infinite Theory, but that's me.

Considering that I already have a Hyroad that goes fairly long and while I don't hate the ball (actually don't mind the reaction of it since I took the surface down to 2000), I'm not sure that I would go out of the way to drill a 2nd one.

The Reign Supreme I'm not clear about because I've heard people say that it goes longer than the Hyroad.....others (like Jeff Richgels) say that it starts up quicker than the Hyroad. Which if that's the case, puts it into play.

The Infinite Theory is interesting and makes sense, but every time I've thrown Roto Grip in the past they average about 250 for 4-6 weeks and then "ball death". But since it's been five years....who knows?

Victory Road has gotten rave reviews and but might be a bit too long. Prodigy is kind of "meh" from what I've seen from others and I haven't seen anyone throw an Anarchy.

Lots of Anarchy's were being thrown in my league, Al.... With good results.  I think it's pretty close to the Energy vs. some of the other balls mentioned.  Hybrid on 1 core does not necessarily translate into same reaction of a hybrid on another core...

After seeing a video of Anarchy being compared to a VE, the two are surprisingly comparable (at least to me)....with the Anarchy starting up a touch quicker than the VE.

I throw both the Anarchy and VE.  The Anarchy is great when there is wet-dry at the start of a set.  Once it carries down a bit the Anarchy pushes long and limps to the pocket.  That's when I switch to the VE.  The VE actually grabs better once they've pulled a little.  It gives me the extra drive to the pocket that the Anarchy loses.  They are drilled identically, pin above and right of ring with the cg kicked right about 1-2 inches from the thumb.  I absolutely love both.  I usually start with a Nano and then work my way down in my Wed. league, and start with the Anarchy and work down on Sunday.

Balls in the bag and order they come out:
#1/2 Nano and Anarchy #3- Virtual Energy   #4- Gravity Shift #5- Big Hit (spare and really dry)
#6- Teal Rhino Pro (oldie but a goodie)

The Shape Lock HD core has less diff, but a stronger intermediate diff. than the Origin core. Altough the Anarchy/Invasion will flare more, the shape out of the oil, will be a bit more angular with the VG/VE. This would explain what you are seeing (I see the same reaction when comparing the two as well).

Thanks Tommy.  I think I like the motion better of the VG/VE compared to the Anarchy/Invasion.  Had the Invasion and absolutely hated it.  Burned up and never made a turn.  That's why I was so surprised when I liked the Anarchy.  It has calmed down a bit as the cover has gotten some games on it.  Nano makes up for that.  The piece is a BEAST.  Kenny Yokobosky drills all my equipment.  Congrats on leading the points for the Regional so far.  I was going to try to get to Rockaway this weekend (I live right in town) but couldn't make it.  I actually finished second in the Win-a-Spot a few weeks back using the Anarchy.  Shot two great games then started b*tchen the ball.  I would have loved to bowl with true professionals.  It would have been a great lesson.  Maybe next year.  Keep up the great bowling!
