NANO in BTM Magazine
« on: April 20, 2011, 03:14:47 PM »
Did BTM rate the NANO favorablly? My subscription ran out a while back and I've also been away from bowling for a little while and haven't yet started back my subscription.

I'm not really looking for anybody to type up the whole review up and post it...unless you want to.  Just kidding.

Just wondering if they gave it favorable numbers for the Torque, Length, Backend, and Total Hook?

Thanks!

They gave it a pretty favorable rating.

Torque - 7
Length -12
Back End -17
Total Hook - 56 - strongest rating I've ever seen them give anything

Gave it high marks on both their oily(9.5's) and medium(8,8,7) patterns.

I've seen a few in action and they look really good on oil and a lot better than I thought they would on medium conditions. The people throwing them were strokers and tweeners. Haven't seen any crankers with one yet.

My Nano was a little too angular for what I like to see with the out of the box finish, so I hit it with a 2000 pad and the reaction is much better now. I used it on both the USBC Open pattern and a house shot in practice yesterday and threw a lot of strikes. I was practicing with a friend who has a span almost identical to mine, and he popped his Vise IT in my Nano to throw it a few strikes. He pulled his old Virtual Gravity out and complained about how he can't really throw Storm stuff anymore because it tends to slide through the breakpoint too easily for him (and considering how highly polished he had his VG, that wasn't surprising). Then he threw my Nano, and just said "Woah." It was much earlier and much rollier than his shined VG as you would expect, but he was blown away by both the number of boards he covered AND the amount of drive it created. It didn't give him a lazy hook/set reaction when it caught a little friction. It just kept revving up and kept turning left.

Dan,

How do you have your Nano laid out?

Very basic layout, (the "#1" layout out Ebonite drill sheets) just a "pin-over-bridge with a little MB kick" type of layout. That puts the pin about 5" from my PAP, probably a 3" or so pin buffer, and the mass bias is probably somewhere around 4" from my PAP. No extra hole. I tried to go with the same kind of pin placement I used on my Anarchy, but put the mass bias a little closer to the VAL to give myself a ball to start with on fresh and open up the lane, then I could switch down to the Anarchy and bump it off that friction I created.

I love mine so far, I also thought it was a bit too angular at ob, so I hit mine with a 2000Ab by hand and love the reaction!!

Boy I was dumb today, The Nano was way too much on the fresh with clean backends, I shoot 169 with 5 splits although I made 2 of them...But then comes the carry down and the ball shined!!! 257, 2o4(opened 10th) to pull out 630.....Lets see what tomorrow holds!

Good recovery.

Where did you play on the lanes?    I believe you mention your rev rate and speed in previous posts but please remind me.

I love the Nano.  The 4000 OOB finish was a little over/under at first, so I sanded it to 2000AB, then really light with 4000 by hand.  I've thrown it at 3 different houses now on heavy and medium-heavy conditions and it has performed really well.

The newest place I threw it at tonight has new Brunswick synthetics and a 43ft house pattern.  It plays more like a medium condition and had a great reaction throwing between 2nd and 3rd arrow with the backend.  Out of 4 games, I used it for 2, then transitioned to the Nomad Dagger for 1, and finished it out with the Rising Star with the carry down and moving further outside.  I describe myself as a stroker but can go deeper if needed, throw between 17-21mph, and had it drilled 4x4x2.5 with a P1 balance hole.  Outstanding ball for heavier oil.
