Invasion - Burning Up? Not Enough Oil?
« on: February 08, 2010, 01:47:49 AM »
I'm hoping someone might be able to give me a recommendation on what I can do to stop this ball from burning up too early.

I had it drilled up last night, and can't for the life of me keep it consistent. Well, I take that back... I can consistently get it to burn up early and die, hitting around the 3 and 6 pin.

I was reading the thread "Invasion Not What I Expected", and what was being talked about (before the thread got nasty) was maybe a bit of polish? Or take the surface down? Right now it's at the out-of-box condition.

I'm not sure what drilling layout my Pro-Shop guy used (just guessing by the Storm spec sheet, 4x4x3), but if anyone can help, here are a couple pictures on how it's drilled.

I appreciate any suggestion. I was hoping to use it tonight at league, but I'm just not sure there'd be enough oil right now.

Thanks!

I have not bowled at 3D in quite some time. From what I remember they put out more oil than Deer Park and they also have newer surface, Anvilane, as opposed to the really old surface at Deer Park. I would polish it, you should get more use out of it at 3D Bowl.

Yeah, I've noticed that 3D does play different than Deer Park, so hopefully I can make it work up there.

Too funny, I never thought that I'd run into anyone I bowl with on here! Thanks Courtney!

I drilled my Invasion up 4 x 4 x 2 knowing that I would most likely never use this ball except on the Heavy PBA and Kegel patterns at tournaments and PBAX. As with all my new toys I still had to throw it on our THS. With this drilling I was crossing around 24 at the arrows out to about 5 (right handed tweener, med revs, 17mph) and back to the pocket. As expected the ball was burning up and not driving through the pocket. After reading these "Invasion not What I Expected Threads" I was curious and threw on some Storm Reacta Shine Reactive Polish and Cleaner to see what would happen. I threw three games of 237, 258, 227 for 722 three game set on fresh THS. So take MC's advice and polish that bad boy up. With the polish I was throwing 17 at the arrows to 10 standing at 28 , the polish delayed the reaction and the ball reached the pocket and drove through it with authority. I believe MC nailed this one, and for anyone else who is "burning up", polish should smooth things out for you, give it a try.

I realize I have not posted here much, but read the reviews on any ball I am planning on purchasing, but I felt I should post here and put to rest one of the problems some people seem to be encountering.

As these guys said, definitely add polish.  Adding more surface will just have it burn up that much sooner.  I'm going to go with 4000+ polish myself for league tomorrow, but will go with 4000 dull for regionals/etc.  I'll try to post my findings afterwards.
