Looking for a new ball
« on: April 13, 2008, 08:41:54 AM »
Hi!!!  I have bowled two summer leagues, and I will be getting into a winter league with my husband, Jason G, but I think I need a new bowling ball.  My current arsenal consists of Columbia 300 Pink Scout and a Visionary Green Gargoyle sanded at 2000 grit.  Don't make fun of my arsenal...I'm new.    I really want to get a Storm bowling ball because they smell really good.  So I've been looking and I think the T-Road solid or the Street Rod Solid look like they could fit my needs.  It looks like the T-Road may fit a little better but I really like the logo on the Street Rod Solid.  I don't know much about my drilling layouts, rev rate and so on.  Normally, I stand a board or two right of the middle dot and roll the ball just right of the second arrow if this helps.  Does anyone have any opinions on which ball I should get?  A guy that bowls with my husband thinks I should get a Gravity Shift, but I think that's because he wants it.

Thanks everyone for reading my first post.

Let me the first to welcome you then. You have to tell us more about your game. What ball weight and speed you throw to start. Rev rate would also be a big help. What type of lanes you bowl on and condition (oily, dry, long oil, short oil).

BTW, you don't trust your husbands ball advice?

Also, don't pick a ball because it smells good or the colors are nice or the logo is cool (unless it's a plastic ball). Pick a ball that will fit into your type of game. You may look really hot on the lanes, but you may score bad.

After thinking about it...if you're looking hot on the lanes, I really don't care how you score.

My ball weight is 14 pounds and my speed is between 11 and 12 mph at pin deck per Qubica.  As far as my Rev Rate goes, I've literally only bowled 2 summer leagues so I'm not really sure what my rev rate is.  My Green Gargoyle definately slides too much in the oil, and I want something stronger to cut through the oil.  I just wanted an opinion as to which ball would be better as a step up to a sanded Green Gargoyle, without going overboard like a Visionary Particle Centaur.

Thanks!!

I did the matchmaker on Storm's website and it said I should throw the Jolt Solid.  My husband is not big on that ball so I'm looking for some other opinions.  He gave me about 10 different balls that would fit this catagory of being able to handle more oil. These two Storm balls were the ones that I like the best.  Can't get too many opinions.

I'm with him on that ball. The T Roads (either one) are very good balls. Don't bypass the Spit Fire. It's also very good.

I would stick with Visionary and try a Frankie May or the new gladiator. If you want an assymetric try an AMB ball, centaur or immortal.

I would say look into the Thunder line or the Fire line and pick the right coverstock based on your style.  Lane conditions you typically bowl on are an important consideration of course.

I almost want to say T-Road Pearl with a layout appropriate for you but I don't like recommending balls too much because everyone is unique.

I just ordered myself a Street Rod, 14 pounds.  I'm excited.  I'll let you all know what I think about it once I roll it a few times.  Thanks so much for the advice everyone!
