More surface on a T-Road Pearl
« on: November 30, 2007, 12:28:54 AM »
We've been seeing more oil on league night lately, and I've been tinkering with the idea of knocking the polish off the T-Road and going with something like 1000 or 2000 abralon.

Who here has tried that?  Results?  I don't want to change the reaction too much, maybe just a bit more midlane read without compromising the nice backend on this beast.

I think t-road pearls are around 500 polish or 1000 polish. Try 1000 dull first, if u feel like its starting to go too short try 2000 dull. One thing I don't recommend is going no higher than a 1000 with polish on it because the ball is going to go too long (ie. 2000 + polish).

Box Finish on a TRoad Pearl is 1500 Polish.  If you go 1000, 2000 or 500 w/o polish, the overall hook will be more (roll earlier) but the backend will not be as sharp w/o the polish.  I'd recommend experimenting with 1000 grit w/ polish first and if necessary go down to 500 grit w/ polish to get the reaction you're looking for on a heavier oil condition.  This is if and only if the bowling ball is going too long for you.   The other thing is that this ball is a pretty high maintenance ball for me (see my review) and appears to absorb a fair amount of oil,  so if you're not diligent about cleaning it regularly the ball will get oil saturated and actually lose reaction making it appear like there is more oil out there when there really isn't.   I'd take the ball to a pro shop that you trust and explain to them what's happening, they should be able to help you figure out what's going on.

I'm having a similar problem as you are nospareball, except with my Pyro. I went from 1500 polished to 2000 Abralon, and the ball smoothed out a ton. It still had some decent length, but not the same bite at the breakpoint. But now the ball is not coming up as hard as it used to, the backend is almost dead it seems. So I hit it with 500 Abralon, dunked it in a hot water bath to extract the oil, and on league night I'm gonna hit it with a 1000 Abralon pad and then polish it. I've polished my Pyro when it was at 2000 once and it gave me that same bite at the breakpoint, it just went incredibly long lol. So I think with more surface and polish to delay the initial move, I have myself the perfect recipe to handle more oil with the same look. Hopefully by Monday I can give you an update.

I have recently come to the conclusion that I prefer Abralon finish on all of my stuff - even the factory polished balls.  I have spent a ton of time (and probably way too many practice games) determining what balls need to be at what Abralon finish for my game.

I keep my T-Road Pearl at 4000.  In general at 4000 the overall hook identical to 1500 polished but it goes through the mids with much more control.  4000 allows you to still get a reasonable skid/snap.

If you goal is to handle more oil then you may want to go to 2000 - but at 1000 I think you defeat the purpose of the T-Road Pearl.

nospareball, What kind of game do you have?  Do you play straight or hook it?  If there is a ton of oil maybe you should go to a stronger ball overall.  I keep mine at 4000 abralon like greenfam.

It still reacts close to the same, but control's the midlane a little earlier.  One of the greatest balls Storm has had.
