What happen to Robert Smith?
« on: September 18, 2007, 07:01:12 AM »
He signed with Elite. Booooooo!
They shouldn't of let him go. I can see they signed Riga Kalfas & David Leverage.

Jeff, do you know why they let Robert go?

two words - Patrick Allen.....

PA bombed cause he's weak between the ears. I addressed that in my extra long post.

Didn't Norm Duke bowl a few TV shows
with a Green Alien from Elite?

robert smith is going to regret switching from storm (if it was his choice to leave). look at all the recent examples of great bowlers switching companies. brian voss went to elite and did not make the exempt list. patrick allen went from ebonite to track and did terrible, then made the switch back to ebonite and did amazingly. these examples disprove the arguement that its the bowler and not the ball that matters.

At the skill level that the exempt (or near-exempt) players have, they could throw Maxims, White Dots, or Storm Soccer balls and beat most of us soundly.  At that level it's more about the bowler than the equipment.

No, Voss switched to Elite and won a title (with an R47, I believe).  The next year, he also bowled with Elite and had some physical injuries that were probably not caused by dropping an Elite-brand bowling ball on his toe, leg, arm, head, hand, or any other body part.

Allen's turn-around is only proof of how much confidence is important to anyone's game, especially his. Run down the list of all time champs, how many only ever "matched up" with one company? Even after the polyester age when there was even less difference between balls.

On Edit: On reflection it's probably more of an issue of staff support than confidence.  Track probably offered more money but less technical support from the ball reps at tourneys.  I believe that all manufacturers offer a wide enough variety in their line-ups to match up to anyone with the right drilling and surface preps.

PA's turnaround also happened to be when the lefties had that mysterious 7 week stretch where they could do no wrong.

Elite's stuff is far from crap. It's proven core/cover technology from BigB.

Overpriced? Yes.

Overhyped? Yes.

But definitely not crap.

Hmm. Sounds like another ball company I know of...

I am pretty sure P.A won a tourney when he bowled with track, and one for hammer a few years back, just goes to show its the bowler not the ball.

True, I guess the question is *why*  But it could be staff support, or maybe his head wasn't quite screwed on correctly, or maybe it could have been equipment issue.

Not that Track isn't good stuff - It is, but it might not have fit his style very well.  I think that Randy Petersen said something like that one of the weeks he was on.  Maybe his spare shooting was down...

Oh boy, here I go - Blaming the ball.  I think it was probably all of the above, and maybe other factors that we didn't know about...

And it really didn't he had to be "off" very much to make a huge difference - The averages that the exempt players have are close enough that 5 pins will make a HUGE difference.

The question isn't whether they can beat us... of course they could.  The question is whether they can still compete against their exempt peers.  As stated before... after switching PA couldn't.

Is the a Patrick Allen or Robert Smith post????

Anyway I wish Robert luck as Maximum Bob was one of my favorite bowlers to watch bowl. I doubt we will see him on TV much unless Elite's wizards can come up with a way to get their equipment the length Robt needs. All of the old school Brunswick rehashed technology is roll and hook happy.

Stronger midlane is definitely NOT what Mr. Smith needed in his game.

Say what you want...if Smith makes a couple of shows....sales WILL go up.  Look at the huge Dynothane boom of 2003-2004 when they were all over TV.  PEople all over the map were picking up the Soaker balls.

Wow nicky it's been so nice lately since you haven't been stirring things up.
What's been the problem did you get little talk from someone at Big B telling you to try acting like a grown up?
