I Just Got A Tropical Storm And Need Your Guys Oppinion On It
« on: November 02, 2006, 07:31:17 AM »
The two balls I currently throw are a Ebonite V2 Strong/R and a Hammer Doom Raw Hammer. So I needed a ball for dryer lanes because the house that I currently bowl at the lanes have been on the dry side lately and the guy at the pro shop told me that the Tropical Storm is one of the best balls for dryer lane conditions. So I need your guys' oppinion on this. Was the Tropical Storm the right choice?

Kind of late now, isn't it. The Tropical should be fine for light oil, not dry.  I would put a weak drill on it and keep it polished.  I felt the ball was stronger than advertised. It always hit well for me, especially light hits.  Good luck with it.

Put a weak drilling on it and you will be good. This ball has tons of length but, it has some angle at the backend.

I will agree.  The Tropical Storm is a great for light oil. I think it will work fine.  I have gotten some of my highest scores with my Tropical.

Drilled one of these for my brother. As all have
posted, this is a drier lane ball, but not really
a toast ball. Dont be confused by that small core,
he has already shot 750 on THS, which he does have
an above average release. This can handle the mediums,
depending on the drilling, which I kicked out the
cg and the pin, but the pin is high. Great ball for
the price too !

Yeah definitely not a toast ball, but a wicked ball for when there is some kind of oil.

In my experience, the Tropical can be either a light oil (not toast) ball or a standard medium condition ball, provided the backends are clean. The ball will not pick up much at all in oil, but it reacts very hard off the dry.

Unlike others, I would not suggest drilling it weak. I would keep something like a simple label drill on it. That will give you more options. If you play the ball more up the back and get it rolling, you'll be able to use it on lighter oil from straighter angles. If you come around the side a bit more and have dry to bump it off of, you can take it inside and whack away. In either case, it's a great ball that can have a variety of uses. I'm sure you'll like it.

No need to say sorry for that, Fluff. I bought my Green-Yellow because I thought it was the best smelling of the bunch. Well, that was until the Black-Red came out. That one smells damn good.

Yeah the black/red is a smell winner!  They need to use that one in some of the higher end balls the come out with next.

That's the one I got was the red/black one. Black cherry scent. It smells awesome. Makes my bag smell good. I just took the ball today to practice a couple of games with it and omg the lanes were so so so so terribly bad. There was absolutly no oil on the lanes at all. It was like bowling on a regular wooden floor that you would find in a basement. I was using the tropical storm, I had to stand lined up my feet with the left gutter and threw it at mid arrow and the ball was still going brooklyn. I'll see how the ball works tomorrow when there is actually a half decent amount of oil on the lanes. I could have curved a plastic spare ball to go brooklyn to probably. I'll let you guys know how I like the ball tomorrow when I get back from my league. Thanks for all your help.

Yeah...I have a pink black and keep it in the garage...where it is a little cooler.

The thing has a beautiful licorce type of smell that if I kept it in a warmer place would really smell up the neighborhood.

I have noticed a lot of cats hanging around my garage lately and also all sorts of meowing and loud crying at night when I go to sleep(again right outside my garage).  Now all of a sudden I notice a lot of kitties hanging around my yard!

The smell is so good that recently I got a cheap ball called a Black Widow.  Well it smelled like...well nothing.  I disliked this so much I just tossed it in a dumpster near the center without even drilling.  Piece of non smellin garbage!

I have not even drilled my tropical storm but I like it already.  Just recently I have noticed some two legged "cats" roamin around my garage at dusk.  Mewing and rubbing up against the garage.   Being as I am married I may have to get rid of it...before I ever drill it!

This is certainly the ball...for a single guy!

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS can anyone who owns one compare the reaction of THIS ball to the Hot Rod Super Sport PEARL?
