what to expect
« on: July 12, 2008, 10:03:06 AM »
What should i exspect from this drill.I told the pro shop to drill the way he would recommend for me.  So what kind of drill is this.

What should I espect? strong or weak hook potential?  Is it a generic layout because my friend has a ball drilled the same way with the dot in the same place.

Charlest,

I almost always agree with your opinions, you are a very knowledgable and level headed poster here. However if somebody came in for their first ever reactive ball, perhaps first fingertip ball, why would you do anything else?

I am not a driller, but I am familiar with the job and it is indeed thankless. But I am a strong believer in "God is in the details." Jobs can be tedious and often thankless, but if you have a job, I believe it should be done well or not at all. If you have never drilled a person's ball before, you must watch them bowl AND try to learn what their home center's oil pattern is like, if they do not bowl in the center where you have their pro shop.

I also have some familiarity with styles of deliver/release and how some balls should be drilled for these. Rare is the situation where the above drilling is the most appropriate. It is the SCAPEGOAT of drillinss: suitable for all, appropriate for none.

I do totally agree with the sentiment and if glenn9812 comes back and says hes had loads of balls before, I will agree with you. It is a serious problem with drillers apathy towards learning about modern equipment and the number of balls you see with 'label' layouts is frankly shocking.

Given how precisely that picture fits the label: "label drilling", I think the odds are enormous as to exactly, precisely what the driller did. In his mind, I can hear his saying: "Got rid of another chump today." No work, out the door, cash in the tiller!

whoa didn't mean to make this into an argument.

Don't worry it's not somehtign we haven't thrown around before.

Also my uncle and cousin bought a ball form them and got the same drill as well.

I think that just about proves my case. And I am EXTREMELY annoyed that it does, if anyone besides me cares.

quote:

I tried the ball only once but the lanes where real dry and it hooked a ton i had trouble with my uncles columbia rival which i was averaging a 195 with. But i'll see this sunday when i go throw it again.

I'll just use this as a ball to see where i go from here for the next one i guess.  i wouln't lose any sleep over it was just wondering about the layout since i see it alot.

Next time i'll be specific and get a better idea on what i want with you guys for a layout.

It can be useful for you, glenn, up to a certain point. It is a strong-ish, but very generic drilling.

For the last several years, balls have been sold that almost need specific drillings, based on a person's delivery. These balls seem less and less generic and more and more specific to certain utilities.

What makes a a label drill so generic?  Is it the CG that's in the middle of the pin that's on a roughly 45 degree angle on the northeast of the CG?
