Title: Word on the street
Post by: robs247 on February 23, 2015, 03:38:11 PM
I've heard that the word on the street is that Storm are going to be releasing a new ball into the Hot Line at the end of April.

Coverstock: Reactor Hybrid Reactive
Weight Block: Cruiser Core
Ball Colour: Scarlet Red/Platinum Pearl
Fragrance: Paradise Punch

That's all i've managed to scrounge off the net so far, i'm interested to see what the core does on this one and how it will compare to the lights out which personally i loved.

The only word I saw on my street was STOP.

Looks like a dude copy logo wise...not a fan.

Reactor coverstock thats actually a downgrade from the hot line no?

Yes, but I hope it's true. R2S is still a fairly strong cover which meant Storm's weaker balls in the Hot line (Lights Out, Wipe Out, and Punch Out) were still medium oil balls that provided strong reactions and left a big gap between them and the Breeze

This is a great move by Storm. When I was on staff, the low end stuff was wayyyy too strong for the burn, and the Breezes too weak. This is a much needed ball in the lineup.

Yeah it would be a great move if the price is downgraded like the coverstock. But I don't see that happening.

I'm also excited to hear about this move. The Punch Out was way to strong. I was just talking to a buddy of mine about how Storm normally releases equipment in the Hot line around May and how I hoped they would release a ball with a weaker cover/reaction to close the huge gap between the Punch out and Tropical Storm. This is the missing piece that would complete Storms line.

eh, the R2S was used in the Hot Line years ago and reintroduced last year. Since when has coverstock dictated a price?

seems interesting.. but doesnt storm usually release multiple balls (at least 2) at once?

Saw a real pic on bowl.com, actually was a real photo instead of a website mock up.   Looks like a 'fast' except the red is darker...can't wait for the core decision...its probably something old.

However there is a IQ tour Nano 'LTD' on the approved list for Jan....prolly overseas.

Cruiser core?

Reminds me of a Brunswick Slingshot, with a Hybrid cover.  Brunswick Slingshot not bad in pearl!

Maybe be a very good in between piece!

Not getting this...it doesn't look like a storm product.  Barf.

After seeing it now, not interested anymore.

I wish they would have stuck with the Turbine core or just raised the RG of the Turbine core. High RG and low diff hasn't rolled too great for me in my 2 attempts with the RG Shout and Motiv Ascent Apex

went to the storm site and just for fun I tapped in my info on the matchmaker section....Matchmaker selected the Ride for me...  :D
 :o
the logo looks more like a metrosexual design to me.... goes with the tight shirt, tight pants, and white belt..nothing wrong if you like to shop at Banana Republic...it's only wrong if you're fat like me and wear these tight clothes....lol

Not a great logo similar to the dude route dv8 went.   All manufactures do this with logos that kill the look of a ball

Core looks like they borrowed from Track/Amf/global using the Triton core

Of course, it's the next great ball. We discussed this in a thread a while ago. :)

They'll learn when EVERYONE else makes a better 95 dollar ball. I'd rather throw 200 down and get a exclusive vibe than throw that..

Bill just sold two infrareds today and for less then 200 each lol. I think this a good ball with a proven core shape……. But the logo will cost it on sells.  Just a plain The Ride would have been enough or Ride.

Seriously children? There are balls out with Monkeys, brains, a guy who when flipped upside down looks like male genitalia, a ball called a "Thug" and another called a Bad A$$. Yet, people are complaining about a semi entry level ball called the Ride, with a "70's groovy" theme on it? The target audience, newer or lower level bowlers, don't care that it has a new weak core or whatever else anyone is complaining about. Storm will likely discontinue the Lights Out and keep the Wipe and Punch in production for another 6-8 months, leaving plenty of performance available for the price. Some I feel are complaining just to feel heard.

The name of the ball isn't the greatest. However, I agree there are worse names out there. I'm still going to purchase this ball because I've been hoping for a ball that falls between the tropical breeze and Punch out and/or Hy Road pearl. I'm excited to see this release.

I dont throw storm but think its a less then good logo,  name is the norm.  When talking sells it is a factor and does matter. You want a complete package and many companies miss with the logos for balls released.

Many tkkshop list I agree on completely.

Is the logo cheesy? Yeah, kinda. But we have seen worse. Will the circle with Ride inside affect the reaction? Nope.

When you have the majority of the market share all u can do is lose it.  This release will not gain or even maintain ground.  Just saying. Poor move by the marketing dept.  It ain't my job to design  a ball, but I can definitely go buy something else! :)  this is worse than Brunswick's 'brute' with the phallic logo on it.

Like I said, I'm glad it's not my job!

Also it looks like a core than 900 global used to use...kinda like the longshots/favorite?

This, these high rg/low diff balls are f*cking terrible. This type of ball does tricks all over the lane.

I no longer work for Storm, so I do not have a dog in the fight. But I could care less what the logo looks like as long as the ball does what it's intended to. Hell, how many guys threw Divas with hearts on them or Jewels with a woman's band on them?

You could or could not care less?  :P

No the Brute is far worst. When the logo is upside down there is no doubt it was intentional in deign and obviously over looked by others.

Look at some of the best looking balls that have released over the years in any price point and how keeping it simple worked so well. Best example is the Ebonite Total NV, that ball looked like a million bucks. Thing I hated about Morich and now some of Radicals stuff is the damn pot smoking hipping names and looks. smh seriously.

The Vibe, Strike King, Cyclone and others show how awesome an entry point ball can be and useful.

Here is your classic Track core being used on several balls
