2nd Dimension vs. VE
« on: December 08, 2009, 09:27:06 AM »
How much different are these two balls?  My buddy has the original Dimension and the 2nd Dimension.  His original is having a bit of a problem turning to the pocket but the 2nd Dimension is a whole different story.  Its moving way more and getting the hook he needs and he isn't even moving in.  So now he is thinking about purchasing a VE.....good choice or not?  Or what could he do to possibly help his Dimension move a bit more.  He has never changed the surface and he throws about 16.5 - 17 mph with a decent amount of revs.

Sounds like he is wanting the Dimension to do something it wasn't designed to do.  It's meant to be a rolly, strong ball that's good for getting the ball to pick up a heavy roll in the midlane on heavier/longer patterns.  If his Second Dimension is turning the corner harder on the back, that's because there's too much friction to really let the Dimension do what it was designed to do.  He probably should just stick throwing the Second Dimension if that's working okay.  Otherwise, if he needs something a little stronger overall, but particulary on the back part of the lane, the Virtual Energy would probably be a good choice.  I'm just not convinced he needs anything stronger.  He might actually need something that conserves energy even better, perhaps a Reign, since it sounds like there is a decent amount of friction present.

Dan made some very accurate points. I would like to add, that the surface on the Dimension may need to be freshened up a bit. If it has never been touched, the Ra values have decreased, and will not create as much friction with the lane surface. What he should try, is buying a brand new 2000 abralon pad, some Storm Mega-bite, or Reacta-Clean, and a ball cup. He needs to wet the pad with water, spray the ball with the cleaner, and with very, very light pressure, clean the ball with circular motions (wax-on, wax-off LOL I watch too many movies!!). After he has done all four quadrants, clean the ball one last time with a clean rag and the ball cleaner. This will restore the tackiness back to the ball, and increase the Ra values.

If this process doesn't help (I would be surprised if it doesn't), take the ball into a certified pro shop, and ask them to restore the ball back to factory. They SHOULD know the process, but if they don't pm me, and I will explain in detail.

This is just a thought but maby it needs a hot water bath.I have both dimensions and the original is definetly not going to have the backend that the second will have. The original soaks up alot of oil by nature so it needs to be deep cleaned more frequently than the second and the easiest and cheapest way is a hot water bath.Remember that the second demension was designed to turn the corner harder and have more energy in the backend than the original.

hey guys im big dogs buddy with the 2D and Dimension... I had the Dimension gone over 2day by my proshop.. and i went and threw it and its got a little more hook too it, but still not as much as i would like.. i was just thinking maybe i need to move more left with that ball and try to get more of an angle on it because ive been standing on the middle dot.. i dont know lol im just lost with this ball right now.. ive been thinking about ditching the dimension and getting a VG or a VE or possibly both so i would start with the VG then go to the VE then the 2D.. My 2D to me has always been much more predictable compared to the Dimension..
