Your Favorite 1-2-3 punch from Storm and Why?
« on: June 07, 2009, 03:33:20 PM »
I wanted to start a topic on here in regards to everyone's favorite 1-2-3 punch from Storm.?  Reason I bring this up is, with all the new releases some may need to take a look at there arsenal and decide what goes and what stays.
My choices are Dimension, and Two different Hy-Roads (Different Surfaces and Drillings). I favor symmetrical cores for there predictability and roll through the pins.  It seems about 85% of the time in tournament play a Dimension or Hy-Road always comes in to play.  These two balls seem to compliment each other very well (for me) as the lanes transition in longer format tournaments. These balls also take well to surface changes and match up to a variety of different oil patterns.
With the new Virtual Energy and Reign, The arsenal may change, but only time will tell after drilling.
What is your Favorite 1-2-3 punch?  All (staffers included) who read this let us know your thoughts and why?

Agree about the HY-ROAD.

Based on what I saw of the FURIOUS and FAST at the last regional, I think I would make the FURIOUS my fresh oil benchmark starter and FAST would be what I'd go to when HY-ROAD is too much.

With my moderate ball speed, I like the weaker Turbine core over the R2S covers.

Paradigm, Ace, Dark Thunder polished,  You can attack just about any condition with these, the ace drilled RICO and kept at 360 w/light polish, makes for a good oiler for anyone with a small amount of hand

If you have not tried a Jolt Particle you need to!!! Very underrated and it is great for Mediums.

Gravity Shift 30x4x60, pin under, 2000 ab, hand shined. Good on heavy, med_heavy shots. Has been a killer in my PBAX summer league. On Scorpion I averaged 211 for 12 games. Can't wait to see what it does on Shark. Usually allows me to throw my normal ball speed(17+) on the higher volume shots. Only drawback is the cover isn't as tunable as my Shift or Spit Fire. I either like it at 2000 shined or 4000 shined or it hits and rolls terrible.

Shift 45x4.5x60, pin under, 1500, shined on a spinner. Love the predictability of how it rolls. Great for medium shots and when the lanes open up. My favorite Storm ball. Very tunable cover. Have liked it dull or shined anywhere between 1000 and 2000 depending on the condition. Won 2 tournaments throwing it last season.

Spit Fire, 4" pin to PAP, pin over ring, X-hole on PAP, 4000 ab shined on a spinner. Good for medium if there's backend or on the lighter stuff. Love how it rolls. Very tunable cover. Have had it everywhere between 1000 - 4000 and liked it. Definitely works better shined. Had an excellent look at the Iowa Open(US Open shot) with it(2000 shined) but spare shooting(usually a strength) cost me the finals - FIBJAM - 190 avg. w/13 opens the last 5 games(8 total).

I can't see replacing my Shift or Spit Fire anytime soon but could see a Fast(based on riggs review) replacing the Spit Fire and maybe a HyRoad or Virtual Energy replacing the Shift some day.

I will say I do like the way most Storm balls clear the front of the lane and how tunable their covers are. That's why most of my arsenal is Storm.

Dimension > Gravity Shift > Pyro

I have the Gravity and Pyro drilled identical and the Dimension to roll earlier...once one starts to mellow out, I know I can go back to where I started with the next ball.  After that the Pyro lets me keep going left, it easily has the hardest turn down lane that I've ever seen.  Once I run into trouble, I can just throw it a bit harder from a spot towards the right.  It's very fun

Attitude Shift, regular Shift, Storm Logo Viz~a~Ball for spares.

Why?:  Because I can play pretty much the same area of the lane all 3 games, just change ball.  Both balls are drilled similar so I get close to the same reaction.  Just the Attitude handles the oil & the Shift handles the transition & both can handle carry down. The Viz~a~Ball allows me to throw at right side spares w/out changing my release much.  Getting the span fixed on it was the best investment I've made in a while.

On Edit:  If you don't count the spare ball, then it's a Gravity Shift or my X-Factor, can't decide........ Leaning to the X-Factor, drilled pin over bridge for a different look on tighter straighter line, Gravity for more of a wheel look.

Game 1 = Virtual Gravity or Dimension
Game 2 = Second Dimension
Game 3 = HY-ROAD or Gravity

That is the best 1/2/3 punch I have found in my arsenal
