I found that the Threat is a good addition to the Track line
in that it gets through the heads clean with better than average
backend. Mine was drilled 4 1/2 by 3 1/2 and with the pearlized
cover gets far enough down the lane to release hard. Bowling on
light head oil I can play deep and cross boards with consistant
hard backend. On oil-dry pattern this ball will play up the
boards well and have a very defined but controlled angle into
the pocket. It has the hit of the original but with better
length and hook.

Very impressive piece of equipment from Track, I have had some problems with several non-performing pearl particle pieces. This is a ball that I would pick out of the bag first. I'm a old school tweener (Love going up the boards), but will swing if I have to. (with this ball I could carry from a variety of angles) The pearlized WOW shell with the Triton Heat weight block gave me control/length and impressive hitting.

Drilling: Stacked Leverage with a 3 inch pin
Weight Hole 1 1/2 inches below PAP

Lane Conditions: Synthetics
38' oil (28 units in ctr)

Great ball. Gets through the fronts real well. It hits like a truck. You can use it on most lane conditions. This is a ball you should always have in your bag.

What can't you say about this ball, a remake of one of the winningest balls in the history of the PBA.

I drilled mine with the pin 4 inches from the axis and a hole on the VAL to help get it started. This was designed to give me more midlane movement, however I am amazed at how much angle this ball created. I was never a big fan of the original, don't think I ever gave it a chance for me. However this ball is quickly becoming one of the first balls out of my bag. I can see me having a couple of these drilled differently to do a couple of different things.

Another strong product from Track! I have thrown it only about 10-12 games and the ball is very strong. Great for playing deep inside, the carry is exceptional from all angles and it is very good through the heads. A side note, is that it will read lane changes very quickly. If you feel like you threw it well and it went high or skidded move your feet. Love the ball and I am pleased with it's spot in my Arsenal.

God Bless and Good Bowling to all.

Holy Shasta!
This ball is amazing.  Had it drilled for length with a strong arc, and it does deliver.  My house has probably med-heavy oil, and this baby does the job.  It is a strong ball, but those with speed and little revs might want to stay away.  This ball needs some time to react, and if you get it right, it will pay you dearly.  Since it can read the lanes so well, all you have to do is make a few adjustments and you are set.  It sends the pins flying, too.

9.9999/10  Purple?  I wished that the thrash colors were on this bad boy.

Picked this ball up last week never had owned anything from tract but was quite impressed. I had it drilled for length first 4 shots strikes goes long looks great going down lane then hooks sharp with good power. Only problem I had with it is if I threw the ball too hard would not break well. I think this is a very very good ball haven't bowled but 5 or 6 games but if I had it to do again the only thing I'd do different is buy it sooner

Ball with a 3" Pin, drilled 4 x 4, no balance hole, box finish

This ball is everything the Heat was and some. It's a brilliant control ball, arcing very predictably on the backend whilst clearing the front of the lane every delivery. It's pearl shell ensures good clearance from the heads and would be great on the dry.

With only about 2" of flare this ball offered excellent carry keeping the pins the low. It has a simple yet strong syemtrical weight block which comes from the original Heat from 1997 which to date still holds obscene amounts of records for scoring and TV shows on the PBA. The ball has been in demand for ages and for the people who remember the Heat, this is a Heat on steroids which will last alot longer (better shell durability).

Whilst it is controllable it will continue to drive through te pin deck (almost left the 8-10 flush last night). Probably one of the most predicatable balls I have ever bowled with and an essential part of my arsenal as it gives me some more options on the dryer conditions instead of throwing more speed.

Hook rating: 6/10 box
Backend finish: 7/10 box

Bowlers Journal said it was the best release of the year as the WOW2 coverstock allows bowlers to sand it for early turn or leave it box for great length. A truly versatile ball that anyone will control and you don't have to sell your children to buy it.

I picked up my Threat about 3 weeks ago, and thus far I have 15 league games on it.  I've played to about a 185 average for the past year since I came back to bowling, with minor fluctuations.  Of my 15 games on the Threat, 10 of them are 200 are better, 3 of the sets are 600 are better and a fourth was 598.  Last night I shot a 234-200-268 for my first 700 series.

The pro shop didn't have a ball in stock with the pin they wanted to give me, so I had a choice between one with a 2" pin and one with a 5" pin.  After some discussion, we decided on the 2" pin ball, and drilled it for a very strong midlane reaction.  This is my first pearlized ball so it took me a bit to get used to the line I need to play with it.  My Threat goes very long and makes a late, hard move to the pocket.  In my house I usually stand with my right foot on the 18 board, and use between 10-12 board as my target, swinging out to around the 5 board.

The difference in reaction on the oily/dry part of the lane is fairly dramatic - this ball won't do a whole lot in the oil, but give it some dry boards to work with and it moves, dramatically.  The cleaner the backends the more angular the move.

Carry is excellent, especially on light hits.  I did leave two solid 8's last night on flush hits.  In both instances the 5 went straight back.

This is an excellent ball and I highly recommend it.    10 out of 10.

what a smooth ball this is! great control, goes long, hard hitting and all at a fair price. what gets my attention is the way it throws the pins  around. light hits carry real well flush just blows the rack. on a regular house shot 42ft oil down and taperd this ball goes real long and saves its energy for the back end.even moderate carry down it cuts through with just a change of ball speed. another great track ball. i give it a 9

This ball is a great complement to my RevMaster.  This one is drilled up 5x4 1/2 with a 3 1/2 inch pin out.  This ball goes long and snaps.  Carries a lot of hits and 2 other guys who are on the Kent State Bowling team with me also have this ball and love it.  Great for 1st game in league, but very controllable with wrist position changes.  The only thing it may do is snap so hard it may leave ringing 8s or 9s, but simple adjustment takes care of it.  Great ball.

Profile:  17-18 mph, high track, 500 rpm
Ball:  16 pounds, 2.5 to 3 inch pin, ??? top weight

I have this ball drilled right over the label.  Pin above and centered between the fingers, cg in the center of the grip.  Not as versatile as I hoped it would be.  Granted, it is particle, but I thought since it is a pearl, that it would work a little better than it does when playing in the middle of the lane.  Have not had the chance to play up the boards with it, but when I play between 20-25 at the arrows and play a fade towards 10, the ball will not come around and hit like most other pearls.  I had a Rock On which is a high load particle ball, and it worked better than the Threat does from the middle to deep inside.  The Threat lays off and leaves alot of flat 10 pins.  The ball hits like a ball does when it quits.  I get no pin action off the walls.  I have tried to polish it with Storm Extra Shine and even down to Storm 3 polish to get the ball to conserve a little energy for the back end, but have had little to no success.  It has the hit and carry of a 14 pound ball.  Not saying the ball is a piece of junk.  I am hoping that maybe it is just the layout.  I have a Triton Heat which shares the same core as the Threat, and it hits much harder and carries much better than the Threat does.

Ball: 15#, 3" pin, bought slightly used from user JKiser01.
Drill: Pin under ring(RH) cg swung out 3" from center of grip.

First time throwing this ball was on a light sport pattern. 40', med/light in the middle of the lane, tapered to about 5. Spotty backends. This ball is too much for light patterns. I was able to play a comfortable shot with it, but this ball flies. Started by throwing my comfort zone: Stand on 25, shoot over 15 out to 8. Way too much angle to play this line, the ball revved up at 38-40' and hard left turn on the nose. I needed only to move my feet 2 boards left and was able to swing the ball over the same line. The movement is sharp and smooth at the same time. The hit is like nothing I have ever seen or heard. Keeps the pins low and sends messengers everywhere.

I also tried this on my normal league shot. Med/Hvy wall shot, bit of carrydown. You can use this ball on a shot like this but you will need to move right and play straight up. This coverstock will not grab well in heavier oil.

All in all, another great ball from Track. This one is my favorite thus far.
I give it a 10!!

My threat has a 3 inch pin, low topweight and was drilled 3 5/8ths x 3 1/2 with a weighthole on my PAP.

I have about medium revolutions with a medium-high speed and this is the most aggressive drilling I've used in a ball since my old V2 Particle.  This ball gives me a very strong read in the midlane and alot of early revs but still has plenty of length to get through the heads even when there is a lack of oil.

Here is where the ball really shines though....Backend Power.  I might not have as much hand as the boomers that open up the lane but this ball combined with the layout allows me to play their same line and cover as many boards as them when I need to and since I don't hit up on the ball I don't get the extreme jerkiness on the backend.  Strong arcing all the way down.  This ball finishes excellent and is the first ball out of my bag on most Tournament conditions just to read where the oil stops because once this ball finds dry it's going left in a hard fashion.

This has to be the most versatile ball on the market due to it's ability to adapt to different drillings.  I've seen people drill these weak and have an excellent light condition ball and I've seen a few power player with Axis drills kill shots with flying backends with this ball.  This drilling I have makes it my most aggressive ball besides my Predator Purple Limited Edition.  It even outcovers the V2 Particle.  Excellent versatile piece of equipment.

Before I begin, I have to wonder how in the world you can two ball manufacturers in the same complex going in completely different directions.

That being said...

Specs:
15 lb
4" pin
3 1/2 TW

Drill specs:
5 X 1 (pin under bridge)
Box finish
3/4 TW

I had read about the huge backends this ball has, so I wanted to tame it down a bit, hence the CG swing.

I would hate to see the Threat drilled for big backends, it might jump off the lane.

I tested this on a standard Christmas tree house shot and a 36' Sport shot along with a Wicked BRT (see review... http://www.ballreviews.com/Reviews/Reviews.asp?BallID=392&ManufacterID=3&ReviewID=18780)

Anyway, I looooove this ball, long and smooth with a sweeping backend that comes back from angles I never thought a ball made in San Antonio could.  On the house shot, I could get in as deep as the surface would allow and bank it off the dry like a boomerang.  On the Sport shot, it was an excellent complement to the Wicked BRT going 2-3' farther and coming in at a much sharper angle.

The Threat handles hand position changes well and is a big performer on anything from medium/dry to medium/heavy.  I haven't tried it on dry, but I can see it doing well on the deeper angles, as well.

I really, really like this ball.  League bowlers will love it for an all-around.  Tournament bowlers will use it on fresh mediums and midway/late into a block.

If you've got really slick heads, I would recommend a control drill to eliminate a flippy reaction.  Even with a control drill, this is a big ball that hits like a ton.

P.S. Somebody from Track needs to help the guys over at Columbia with their particles.

i love the length, the control, and the reaction of both the backend and the pins...

i drilled this for my go-to ball for carrydown..

amazing resaults, but i find that this ball hits a little soft if playing up 5...

18-15 is my golden line with this ball..

Got mine used from Mike D'Ambrosio in Rockville Center, NY. 15# w/5"pin. has over 200+ games. Drilled pin above bridge(X drilling Mike called it. Well this ball still has life. Coated with Doc's Elixir then some Track polish and baby the pins go BOOOOMMMM!!!!! Very hard turn on the backend. Sensitive to entry angles and speed. Too much entry angle and you get the ring dime every time. But I can live with that... Should have bought one new. Oh well I hope he can find me another(Mike is on Tracks staff). This is my first Track ball since the Green Synergy solid.... hmmm, I wonder if he finished with his Mutant?

picked me up my 2nd one of these, and this time, no messing with the surface...kept mine box.  it's a 2nd, its got a 5in pin with 1 1/2 top

swung cg way right and put the pin above my middle finger(right handed), small x-hole

not as much length as my 1st one, but man does it have backend!  i had forgoten how much backend this ball has.  havn't had a good shot to test it out on.  but from what i've seen on house shots, i'll be very pleased when sport shot time comes around. peace

This ball is perfect for me. I am a down and in type roller. This ball is good on medium lane conditions. I had a 290 earlier this season with it. Ball not hooking as much as it was when I first got it. Not sure if it's the ball or if the lanes are slicker. I am getting ready to drill up another one slightly stronger to see what happens! Can't go wrong with it!

I am a tweener. Right handed. Ball speed 15 to 17 mph depending on conditions. Pin 1" above 1" right of ring finger. PAP 5-1/2". Balance weight hole. The ball is in box condition. I have a dozen games in so far. I have not shot any huge games yet, but I am feeling out this ball. It is not a monster hooker, but I was looking for more control. Better reaction in over/under conditions then some of my more aggressive balls. I was trying to replace my Revmaster. It is not as aggressive as the Revmaster, but easier to roll and smack the pocket. I really believe that once I know the do's and don't's of this ball it will be a very good "control" ball. It is not the best ball that I have ever had, but if you are looking for a more even control, then this is the ball. It is not a huge hooker, but will walk into the pocket nicely. Goes through the heads and down the boards nicely, then revs up and makes its move into the pocket. I have left very few corner pins so far. My high game through twelve games is only 244. Not great, but like I said, I am still feeling the ball out. I will check back in after twenty four games.

I drilled up a threat a few months ago with a pin 0-1 positioned in the center of grip to give a smooth reaction this ball has became the first ball out of the bag anywhere I go it is very controllable but hits like a tank this is the greatest ball ever in my opinion it works great on house shot as well as sport aI rate this ball a 20 on a 1-10 scale its just that good

This ball is absolutely awesome. I have never
been able to open up a lane as much as i've
been able to with this sweet thing. I used to
play 12 out to 8 and now i play 17 out to 6
and sometimes 20 out to 8 and this ball comes
charging back to the pocket with force. Carry
is better then average as long as i stay behind
the ball. Get around the side of it and its
10 pin city. The last 3 weeks of lg i have
aveaged 230 with this. I will be purchasing
another and i will be getting a triple threat as well.
I give this ball a 10.

i bought one of these when they first came out in  the thought
of replacing my danger zone well when i first throw the ball i oiled the lanes  up for heavy oil witch in our house is 40 feet solid oil then buffered to 41 feet
. i always throw from 12 out to to 6 for any of my balls to come in well  it didnt really come in as much as i herd people brag about it so i moved three boards right and thought that would work well this ball does hit hard but i  always left 10 pins with the damn thing. so  i played it like that all the time and tryed going back but it didnt work  so now it sits in my closet waiting to be thrown in a hole in my yard

I posted a very early review on 03/11/04. I said I would comment after more games. I figured out the correct way to play this ball and WOW was this incredible. On Thursday, March 25th, 2004, I shot 269, 267, & 248 total = 784. This is my highest ever. Then the following Sunday, March 28th, 2004, I shot 248, 277, & 235 total = 760. These were my two highest series ever all within a couple of days. I only average in the low to mid 200's. This ball is unbelievable in medium oil to dry condition. The ball gets down the lane nicely and sets up great and explodes on the back end. The ball HITS LIKE A MACK TRUCK! Under medium to dry conditions, you can play more straight up then any other ball that I have and then the ball makes a mad dash for the pocket with a ton of energy left. Track gets a 10 from me, BUT WHY ARE THEY YOU DISCONTINUING IT?

I'm only 13 years of age, and have just started to bowl with Track. I throw a 90 degrees angle, and about 10-12 revs, throwing about 14 mph.

I heard from a friend that this ball was an awesome ball. I found it for a cheap price and ordered it. The first time I bowled, I had a 185 average. I am normally a 160 average. Ever since, I have noticed it works better on Medium-Dry lanes, and on heavier oil, it doesn't react as much. If it didn't react hard, I just rolled the ball better and put more revs, and that did the trick.

Ball: 4x 5 layout, pin above ring finger, factory surface

Lane Conditions: Wood lanes, 44ft house shot, dry on the outsides

Hook: For being particle, this ball reacted so much like a reactive. Length and extremely strong at the breakpoint. If there is carrydown or the backends are spotty at all and the ball hits it......skate city. It has to have dry backends in order to move. 7.5

Control: It has a strong breakpoint, but it is typical every time there. Meaning, if you hit the mark it will react the same every time, but if you miss it will be unforgiving. 8.0

Hit: It hits rather well, but not quite up with some of the other Track balls. It does not OVER HIT though, it gives just enough, and it carries well. There always seems to be a messenger on the deck to take a pin that was left behind.
7.5

Readability: This is definately not the ball someone would want to use to read the lanes. It is way too skid/flip for that. 7.0

Overall: I can see how this ball was so popular. I see it much more playable for someone with slower ball speed. Give it a chance to react, and it will treat you well.

OVERALL RATING: 8

Okay, this ball started to calm down a bit, just like my Crash, but threw it a couple of times, and I couldn't control it, it hooked a bit too hard sometimes. I think it was because I polished it, and it hooks a good amount, and has a good entry angle.

Got ball back in Nov.
Pin-above ring finger
small x hole on pap
Ball goes long well too long for me
I think maybe it's the setup on it,because mine never played like others.
I usually throw it through the break point even on dry lanes, have to slow it down to get a 3-4 board break out of it. I aint gonna diss it cuz I do believe it's the setup.

Ball: 16-pound, 4.25-inch pin, X-out for low top weight (0.97 oz)
Drill: CG-axis drilling (4.5x0), pin above ring, no weight hole, surface in box finish
Me: Tweener, PAP 4 over 3/8 up, good speed, good ball circumference
---

Bought this ball for a couple of reasons, the first being it cost me $14 on eBay. But with a ball with top weight this low, I figured it would be a good choice to put some kind of experimental drilling on.

Turns out I was correct. The CG-axis drilling I picked makes this ball infinitely controllable and a great choice late in a block. My house is on the dry side of medium, but because it does not have a drastic "wall" in the middle of the lane, by the end of the night, chasing the oil typically means moving outside and playing away from the track area.

The combination of this ball's mild particle pearl cover, the layout and the fact it's simply older technology at this point make it a good fit for my needs.  The ball covers outside angles well without overreacting, but still has enough fight in it to be useful early in a block from more inside angles.

This ball is an ideal choice for bowlers needing an "alternative piece" to complement newer, more aggressive balls. X-outs are still available through some shops and most of the X-outs I've seen are for top weight numbers only, which actually can work in your favor.

Glad I bought it. It was a steal for the money and fills a niche.
