Had it for a while, finally getting around to posting a review.

Ball: 16lbs (man weight)

Me, lefty good revs, higher speed (16-17mph at the pins). Layed out by Bill Monce, sales rep and a heck of a bowler (the guy in the Crunch Time ad) based on how I roll the ball and not really hook it (11 degree axis tilt according to Mo Pinel), ball sets up very well for me. With this drilling, it allows me to play a little 10-5 swing while the ball gets into a roll very quickly but still maintains plenty of energy for the backend. Doesnt make a big skid/flip move, more of a continuous arc into the pocket. Messengers o' plenty when the ball enters the pins at a lower angle. Have used this ball on several shots, a 39 foot wall with good backends, a 36 foot wall with decent backs, shot crown on wood lanes, and on a late shift leftover shot where the ball set up by the arrows, then skidded until the pins. Have been able to use this ball on all conditions and be able to score well with it. Carry percentage is good when I throw it good, but when I throw it bad....well the end result usually isnt too good but thats my fault. Great ball from Track, thanks again Del!

Does Anyone ever give bad reviews on this site? I am a right handed tweener. Ball speed 15 to 17 mph. Medium revs . Pin 1 inch above and 1 inch to the right of my ring finger. Weight balance hole. PAP 5-1/2 inches. This is a strange ball. Just like all Track balls it goes much longer than you would think it would being a dull ball. Saves all of its energy for its move to the pocket. Under the correct condition, this ball is a monster. Under the wrong condition this ball sucks. If you have good head oil and good mid-lane oil and a burned back end, you will crush the lanes with this ball. I recently shot 675 under this condition. The 675 should have been an 800. If you have over/under ABSOLUTELY PUT THIS BALL AWAY. In over/under conditions it skids and snaps, depending on where the carrydown is. It is ABSOLUTELY UNMANAGABLE WITH HEAVY CARRYDOWN. It is a Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde type of a ball. If you know when to use it and when to put it away, it is a good ball to add to your arsenal.

hey this is my first review

i am a 16 year old, work at AMF waldorf in maryland
I drilled one of these up yseterday pin next to right finger, i threw two practice games then went to my scratch league. First game i shot 300 mostly flush pocket shots, next game i shot 256 then 237 for a 793 set. This ball is amazing, all you have to do is hit the pocket. its a great ball to swing out, last nigh i stood 28 and threw over 9 out to 3 and slammed the pocket. I hope this ball only brings me more luck

Let me just say this is the best ball I've ever owned. I just picked up a used one. Had it drilled as with pin above ring 4 1/4" from my PAP with a small weight hole. It also has a light coating of compund applied. Man does this thing move. I have bowled with this in two different leagues on differnt house shots one with fresh oil and the other being a second shift. This thing seems to never loose energy. Once I find a line I like with this which doesn't seem too difficult. I have only had to move at most 2-3 boards over 4 games. First night out in each league, I shot 886 (4 games), and 712, my highest series in each league. I hope this thing never wears out that's for sure. I may go back to carrying just two balls this and a plastic spare ball.

i agree with tenpin i had a mutan drilled up with 5/8 finger and 1/4 negative side and the ball went completely nuts it went 35 feet and turned around totaly hooks off the lane not for someone that has a med to high rev rate or side roll at all

Got this ball used from my pro shop so I was like why not drill it so I set it up pin under my ring and cg kicked out left and mass bias by my thumb and a weight hole as well. This ball is really strong. Gets down the lane really nice and makes a good mide lane turn and just arcs so hard and hits so well. Great ball for medheavy-heavy oil I give it a 9 out of 10 wish I can find a new one I would take it. Great job track.

This review is for a Mutant Mania, not the original Mutant. The Mutant Mania is a Mutant core with the Sheer Havoc coverstock.

Ball specs: 15 lbs 5 oz. 2" pin 4.5 oz of tw.

Based on my PAP (6 1/4" over), ball is drilled 5 1/2 x 3 (pin x mb). This left the pin under my ring finger and the mb between my thumb and VAL.

I used the ball on a few different shots and got a good read out of it on all 3 shots.

First shot, med/hvy oil to about 40', 5 to 5 with quite a bit of carrydown. The schools were on vacation so the lanes were pretty sloppy. I got lined up standing on 20 playing 10 at the arrows out to 8 and the ball was smooth and controllable, but very aggressive. It arcs very hard. It reads the midlane very well, but still has good length. It retains energy well for the pins. I was in the pocket all night playing this line on this shot.

Second shot, med oil to 42 ft, 5 to 5 with spotty backends, second shift league. On this shot, the ball was very aggressive. It needs head oil to get down the lane. I had to move in real deep on this shot. I was standing on 30, playing 20 out to 15. On this shot, the ball worked great again. It revved up early and ready the midlane and again arced hard on the backend and smacked the pins around with authority. I am not usually comfortable playing this deep but this ball made it easy for me to play a deep line. I got lined up and was in the pocket again all night.

Last shot, med oil 40' buffed to about 48' stripped backends, 5 to 5. I got lined up standing on 25 hitting 15 at the arrows out to 8. The ball read the midlane great again and revved up hard when it hit the buff area and stormed back to the pocket. The ball worked great on this shot as well. It read the midlane well and made a strong, hard arc to the pins.

Summary, this is a great ball to read the mids with. It gets started up early, especially with the drill pattern I have on it. This core/cover combo works very nicely together. I dont know why they didnt release this here. It is a great ball. Very responsive to hand changes and retains energy well for the pins. The coverstock can be dulled up for heavy oil or polished to fit more of a med oil gap. In box condition this ball would suit your med/hvy needs perfectly. Another great ball from Track!!

A strange thing happened on the way to the pin-deck...

My Mutant is RH drilled for early revs and strong reaction: Pin 3-3/8" from PAP, just under the ring finger, MB 2" on-center to the right of my center line.  A fine layout for the stroker I used to be, but a tough one for the strong tweener I am now. My rev rate and ball speed increased, and ever since then the ball just weakly angles toward the pocket, but never makes it there.  And the most astonishing change, it suddenly was as if the ball had brakes, because it slowed down DRAMATICALLY on the backends.  The results: Wash out after wash out after wash out.  

Why did this happen?  Simple: The Mutant is a ball designed to rev early, with an arc- to strong-arc reaction, and with a lane-grabbing coverstock.  Then the ball was drilled with a max-flare, early-rev, strong reaction layout.  After the increase in my rev rate and ball speed my skid length increased, saving almost all of the track flare for the backend, hence the "hit the brakes, but don't break" reaction.  It was futile to scuff the ball, because all that did was put more flare in the oil, almost nothing in the dry, and the ball was always on the verge of roll-out.

It comes down to using the right "tool" for the job: The Mutant is an excellent ball, not extremely versatile (but not meant to be, either), so as long as it is properly laid out for the particular bowler and condition, the ball gets the job done.  But then, most balls fit this statement...don't they?
