Having trouble...
« on: May 29, 2005, 04:05:28 PM »
I started my Monday night mixed league last week and couldnt find a shot at all. Of course I had just come back from my honeymoon in Aruba the night before, but aside from that I was totally lost. The lanes were med oil 5 to 5 out to 28, buffed out to 40. The backends were squeaky clean. Everything was flying left. I tried to start with the Slash and that ball dove through the nose, went on to the Xception, again, through the nose or brooklyn. Tried my Scamp and that was better but not much. I shot a measely 456!! Of course, I missed ALOT of spares, but I couldnt strike to save my life!! What ball in my profile would you use and why?? Need help quick, gotta redeem myself later on tonight at league!!

Rock,

Congrats on the marriage bud!!!

Hey, correct me if I am wrong......I checked your profile (have you updated it recently as far as your game goes)? I thought I remember you saying that you had lowered your track?

Hey Rock,

First question, how deep were you and what were you hitting with the Slash?  Please give me your finishing position, target at arrows and target at breakpoint, thanks.  Sounds like they were just kind of flying on the back but not sure how deep you were either.

Bet you were so weak from the trip that you weren't staying behind the ball and got very little length. Probably timing was off also; so maybe, it wasn't the ball(s) used ...

Charlest, I agree with you. My head wasnt in the game at all. I was there physically but not mentally.

Tenpinspro, I was playing pretty deep with the Slash. I was starting on and ending on 28, putting the ball down at 20 over 16 at the arrows out to the 7 board. But when the ball hit the dry it was very snappy. I was trying to move in deeper and stay in the oil, but as Charlest mentioned, my mind was not with it and I was probably not adjusting correctly.

Ex, thanks for the congrats. As for my profile, yes I have been trying to update it as much as possible. As far as lowering my track, I think I did but not much. I think I am right around 5 1/2" over now. Still tracking high but my first oil ring on a low flaring ball comes back at 1 1/4" from my ring finger and 1" away from my thumb. Hope that helps.

I need to get a more accurate measurement of my PAP to see if it has changed. I am going to see my coach this Saturday so I will see if he can measure it up for me.

Now I'm really impressed!  CharlesT can now even predict your psychological state of mind.  You never cease to amaze me "C"..or was that a Jedi mind trick..

Rock,

In trying to find a shot (no matter what), keep going deeper until the ball can hold the shot even if you can't physically.  The deeper we go, the more energy we actually cause the ball to use so "we" the bowler won't have to use force to try and hold that shot or trajectory.  Another quick trick for screaming backs where there's no free hold, I aim for the 3 pin as my pocket.  You have to stay further right of your normal breakpoint because the dry boards will return you to the pocket.  That's when your normal pocket trajectory is taking you thru the nose, you'd want to over compensate a little.

I hear you though, sorry, forgot to say CONGRATS! buddy.

Rock,

Here is another trick to try, more than likely it will take you away from your "A" game though.

When I went to Kegel Training Ctr last year they thought this was best to do on shorter patterns and screaming backends. Use your strongest ball and play straight up between 2board and 5 board. Stay behind the ball to help tame the backend reaction.

The more you come around the ball the stronger the breakpoint is going to be.

I should add to my previous post and state that it will work as long as you have some oil outside. If you don't have enough oil then ofcourse the ball is going to jump immediately.

Rock,

Check with Rick, but the C300 Trooper may be a good addition to your arsenal for a shot like that.

May the farce be with you, Rick-san.

As soon as  he mentioned honeymoon, didn't the rest of you think he may have been "drained" ????

Yep, That's one of the "tricks" - go deeper until you actually need a stronger ball to make the turn. (Of course, that stronger ball needs/kind of should have a 5" pin or greater.) Until you're standing in front of the ball return, you haven't tried to go deep enough. Then pull out your urethane or plastic balls. (Of course after a week of honeymooning, all you have left is "plastic balls". )
