718A -- question on lane conditions?
« on: February 22, 2011, 11:07:21 PM »
i was able to throw this ball at a demo and was impressed with it.  for those that have the ball, how often can you use it? is it good on the fresh, or only for later games?  in other words is the ball condition specific? i really like the specs -- rg 2.50 and diff .058 ----  so let me know how the ball is working for you?

Like any pearl it depends on the lanes built in friction whether you can use it out of the gate. Sometimes it will work fine, but other times it will be to slick at the end of the pattern to use it out of the gate. On a typical house pattern you should be able to use it all three games. However, if you encounter any volume I suggest using something like a 505T for one game and once a spot has been developed then move to the 718A.

If you haven't purchased the ball yet I know the 920A is on closeout, and that piece will fill a similiar need as the 718A at a much lower price.

Like any ball, regardless of pearl or solid, proper coverstock and drilling matchups require a little game-planning between you and a qualified pro shop employee.  I've had the good fortune of throwing this only on fresh but can't imagine that you couldn't have two or three with various drillings and surface preps that would handle any condition or transition you might encounter.  Bottom line, I would highly recommend this!

I just drilled my 607A SE last week. I tried it on a fresh shot with strip backs for one game and it was way too over and under. I am not a fan on the power house polish. I feel it's too glossy. I went home that night and took a 2K abralon pad to the surface and used Lane Master polish. The finish was a flat shine. Last saturday we had a tourney at one of our local houses and i bowled the second squad. The shot was blended. The ball rolled much better as the ball picked up in the midlane and turned the corner on the back. I was very fortunate shooting a 300 in game 1. I definitely see using this ball on blended shots and later shifts in tournaments. All remember not to be afraid to change the surface for your game.

On my THS league condition, this ball is way too long on the fresh, but by the middle to end of game 2, it really starts to work tremendously well. Super ball, but in the out-of-box finish it does need some friction to work from

I found the exact same thing to be true, too long on fresh but somewhere from early to mid second game it becomes an excellent ball to use.   Right now I find myself throwing my Taboo the first game and switch to the 718a when I begin to see to much movement from the Taboo

It really comes down to the layout and surface prep, and the bowler themself. I love both of mine onf a wide range of conditions and houses. For the most part I start with my 718A drilled pin in ring with the polish off of it at 2000. I can start with this ball and use it for as long as I can not weak 10. The second I weak 10 I can grab my 718A drilled to go long and flip and stay where I was. They give me a great 1-2 combo, and make things so simple on nights of bowling.
