Title: A question for you guys....
Post by: tenpinspro on February 20, 2007, 06:25:13 AM
Just got off the phone with Carl and we decided we would like your opinions on this.  Remember how we asked you to lay out our some of our pieces to see a reaction?  Well now we'd like to see where you guys think what company we should sign with (if available).  Now that the new year has already started, it limits us greatly on our choices because most contracts are budgeted and run calender yr 1/1 - 12/31 (another reason I feel Col owes us staffers something).

When I joined the Track forum 4 yrs ago, we were 5th in popularity in BR.  With the help of Carl, Anthony Chapman (achappy), George Frilingos, Clint Daley and many others.  We've boosted Track to 2nd, I think that says a lot for the work we've done here in customer support and satisfaction.  I feel we could do the same in any respective forum if given the chance.

1.Brunswick
2.Ebonite/Hammer/Col/Track/Dynothane
3.Lanemasters
4.MoRich
5.Storm/Roto
6.Visionary
7.Other...

Thanks for your time....

On edit: I told Carl that this would be the 1st time we don't have to wear a Track shirt and I have a few Storm/Roto balls I stashed that I liked the reaction of to use in league tonite.  Just a weird feeling, that's all...

Rick, I don't know if you have thrown other companies equipment, but I always felt, putting money aside, that a person should go with the product they feel is the best. I myself like Ebonite and Hammer.

I'll vote for Roto.  Their equipment looks really good.  Like Andy said, make sure whomever you sign with treats you guys well.  It is well deserved.

I'd vote for either Hammer or Lanemasters/Legends.  I think Hammer has really been on the ball as of late, with big releases like the Black Widow and a strong mid-priced line in the Raw Hammer series.  LM/L is a company that could maybe use strong support from guys like you.  They have an interesting line up and have shown themselves to be a "different" ball company that focuses on quality first and foremost.

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

Rick,

I'd say check out Storm, and then Brunswick/Morich. I think these by far are the most popular and versatile companies at the moment. I ordered a couple Storm balls friday that should be here tomorrow!!

The stuff i like other than Track might be Lanemasters, MoRich, or Brunswick .. they're all good. I would stay faaaaar away from Ebonite. I don't trust their coverstocks, never did, never will. Sorry to the people who do like them, this is only IMHO.

Honestly, I would say that you two should choose which company intrigues you the most. All of the companies have excellent equipment, but I know for me some balls and companies (Visionary, Ebonite, MoRich) really intrigues me the most over some of the other brands (Brunswick, Storm).

With that being said, if I had the opportunity (really the money, since you just pay to get on the test staff), I would buy a membership to Visionary's test staff. They do not produce balls like the bigger companies have, but the fact they fly under the radar with some great equipment is the best part about them.

Many that have thrown Visionary can testify that they are not exactly out there creating the biggest hooking monsters that they can. The Gargoyle series was not a huge hooking series, but they were mostly control balls that could get you out of a bind on the tougher patterns.

I know it's not exactly the most desirable company, especially with the big three pumping out innovation after innovation. But to me, Visionary has that kind of "charm" that I look for. It's like choosing the girl next door over the supermodel. The supermodel may be the best looking, but the girl next door just has that something you're looking for.

FAT MAN and LITTLE BOY...  At least I thought they were named after us.

Thank you guys for your vote, keep'em coming.

Pshh, screw my last post. Here's what you do...

1. Buy a lottery ticket.
2. Win the lottery.
3. Buy a manufacturing plant.
4. Make your OWN equipment!!!

Now it may take a bit of time to win the lottery...but in the end it may just be worth it!

First I want to say that it is because of Rick, Carl, Clint and George's postings that even got me to look at a Track ball. So there is a pretty good chance that I will look for my next one where you guys land.

I would love you guys to go to Visionary. They seem to make quality equipment. They are still a "small" company that is family oriented (unlike other companies). And I think that they would really boom with the knowledge that you would bring to the table. Also they don't produce balls just to produce balls, they see a gap in their line up and that is what they fix.

And in their forum it is hard to get a lot of good feedback now.

After them I would say Morich.

PS:
I am thinking of getting back into the Test Staff with Visionary.

My first suggestion would be Roto Grip or Storm. After that, Visionary, Brunswick, Lane#1, Banger, etc. My reason for saying Roto Grip first is that they make such wonderful equipment and with your talent, you could really give them a boast in popularity. Their equipment deserves it. But most of all...whoever will give you a paycheck!

Rick & Carl,

Rick, you already know my choice, but for discussion sake, I'm hoping you both go to Roto.  I haven't been using them long, but I already have 4 of their balls in only a short amount of time since using my first Roto ball (which was the Battle).  They make quality equipment and I know you said you matched up well with them in the past.  Storm would be my 2nd choice for you guys.

Given the past year and the inherent instability of the financial life of a pro shop, I suggest you guys sign with the most financially and politically stable company. I almost hate to say it (solely because it's been so long since I've used any of their balls) but it looks like that company is the Ebonite corporate structure  ....

Right now, personally, I use Visionary for light to medium oil and Lanemasters for medium to heavy oil, with one Roto-Grip ball thrown in for good measure. However, I have a couple of Track and Brunswick balls I will never get rid of.

Morich first because he might pick you up right away and you are both experts in assymetric balls already and believe in the concept. Otherwise Legends because honestly they are just better overall balls than the Track stuff, i fall off the Track wagon awhile ago. Inertia was the last really good ball made by Del and his only one in stint two, and the new Phoenix is good ball but nothing special either.

Rick and Carl...
Wow.. The bowling Company's are becoming just about like the automobile companies. A few companies and a lot to pick from. This being said it comes down to what you like a Ford, GM or Other's as to what to fit your needs.
I have used Track equipment for a long time now and still use some older Track equipment on a weekly basis. This is just my take, there is not a lot of difference in most of the equipment coming out now. Big weight blocks, soaker coverstocks, go long and hook hard. Who ever can advertise their equipment the best and yes if a lot of bowlers see them Sunday on TV, this will sell bowling balls. If both of you could stay with the new/Ebonote/Hammer/Track/Columbia/DT, this would be a good fit for you if possible. I do know what ever company you decide to go with, will greatly benefit from your knowledge and patience with their customers. I know you will make the right decision whatever it may be.
Good luck to both of you and keep us posted.

Rick,

You need to sign with a company that matches up to you and has an appeal for the everyday person as well. It also has to be a product that you can push and have faith in. If you don't believe in a product, then you honestly can't push that the way you really want to or could.

Right now, I am tossing Visionary and have loved their stuff....all of the Gargoyles, Ogre, Blue/green Centaur....the covers hold up well....

My vote is Visionary....but you guys need to do what is right for the shop and yourself.

Rick, Track may be second in number of posts, but you guys boosted them to #1 in terms of help, advisement, knowledgeable posts and etc. I have been a member of BR for 4 years now and I have learned more and received way more help/advisement in the Track Forum than I have in any other Forum on BR.

As for companies to try to go with since you and Carl are now "free agents", I would really-sincerely like to see you guys hook on with Legends/Lanemasters. They have some really good products and I will go so far as to say I think they have some of the better products on the market today. I have a couple of their balls and love them both and would have more if people like you and Carl were on their staff, but I quit after two balls because of the lack of help when needed from Legends/Lanemasters. With people like the two of you in their Forum plus Charlest whom is already there, help would be available for everyone all of the time and it would be a huge movement towards increased business for Legends/Lanemasters. Galen Gentry is great, but he doesn't have the time to devote to the Legends/Lanemasters Forum. I would like to see you guys look at the following companies in the order listed.....

Legends/Lanemasters.... (Rick, they are almost in your backyard)
Ebonite..... (Good company and good products)
Storm....... (an ok company, but they have some shake-ups now and then)
MoRich......(Becoming more popular, but they are a long way from you)
Visionary....(not as well known as othr companys)
Brunswick....(they have some good products but too crowded over there)

Put out the feelers and see what bites.  Then go from there.  Another up and coming company that I might suggest (not as a joke) is Banger bowling.  I am sure they are looking for good reputable individuals to help bring their brand more into the public eye which in turn could give you two some leverage since you are both so very well respected.  Never hurts to have another possibility.  Otherwise I would like to see you stay with what you know or venture towards Storm.

Rick + Carl,

As far as what you may get, go with whoever makes you happy and is the best deal for you. From a br.com reader standpoint I would point my direction to Utah. Steve K used to post on here with some great tech stuff but that forum has been very poor with information or at least not as in-depth. There are a few very good posters but still not the level of unity and guidance that you guys brought to the track forum. Visionary is a great line and the representation wouldn't hurt them at all. L/L might not hurt either but their line of communication is pretty tight into Galen although i believe there popularity has got past the point of one mans echos. I would hope Ebonite throws you guys a bone or maybe even some "new guy". He still wears a pretty big hat, even though he is a lefty. Good luck with you endeavors. As far as BigB  on this site they are already pretty well advised through Nick,Verbs, RobLaw, etc. I know i as well as other have always appreciated what you have done and hope you can keep it up.

Morich not only do they make great stuff but like you two they are dedicated to the growth of bowling on its educational side. Mo goes out and does his pro shop tour as well as 3 day camps not only does he sell good equipment he sells the came and is passionate about bowlers improving and learning. Our pro shop recently hosted him for two days and he was nothing short of amazing answering every question squeezing walkins in and everything. We started at one thirty and finished up around midnight and then he came back the next morning at 9:00 am for two more people and to help us  on the technical aspects of drilling his equipment. We are also in the process of putting a camp together it would be in the northeast Connecticut by the casinos if anyone would like info when it becomes available please pm myself or Traumabill.

Hey Rick!

Sorry its taking me so long to post my opinion...I have to say, go with whoever treats you right and whoever you believe will be there for you in the long run...I think its really crappy that they didn't even have on the list of staffers which is pretty pathetic in my opinion...I have to admit as well that trying something other than Track was weird at first...I've already sold the Toxic, just didn't like the look it gave me and I'm currently looking for a bidder to take my Total NV, not much luck in league last night with it...just my two cents though! God Bless You Rick and you know you have my support with whoever you choose buddy!

Start your OWN company. You guys could call it Tall and Short Bowling Inc.

Seriously, I'd say Storm then BrunsMo.

Well after watching carl throw some of the stuff he just punched up and seeing how bad it tracks out and nasty it gets after only 4 games. Then also watch myself trade a ball to get a Pain, and then see how bad it has already tracked out and how much I have to keep on it to make sure it reacts. I would say for you guy to get a loan (really really really big one). Start your own company, hire the hitmen on as security, and some of the good people who lost there jobs at columbia ind. as the rest of the staff (This included Phil C.) and start putting out your own stuff.

If that dont work just sign with the company you think is the best out there. I know carl already knows what I think mostly but I was so set on trying that soaker cover. I think I may end up just shopping on the rack for stuff I see left there. (most resently found a Elixer, 5-6 red pulse, and I almost had an animal but some kid beat me to it.)

From Carl and myself, thank you all VERY much for your replies and thoughts.  Bowling-wise, I can throw anything.  I'll still suck and will stay 210+ (been at that for 20 years) probably the rest of my life without practice.  I'm more concerned of the support I get for my customers and how much a company will listen to me for input for my customers.  Thank you again and keep'em coming!

One more thing I forgot to say, thank you to everyone who has sent messages to various manufacturers on our behalf.  That was a very nice gesture....

Rick...

STORM!!!!

They have some great equipment and the Storm forum could REALLY use a few more intelligent people to "help out" with the equipment (layouts, surface prep, etc...).  That's the one thing I really miss in regards to when I rolled Track, all the knowledge I gained from reading posts made by the Track reps...

I'm leaning towards Morich, Roto Grip and Legends. Luckily I have a complete fairly new Track arsenal that I love so there is no rush.

Current Arsenal:
Power Machine
Strike Machine
Machine
Arsenal Artillary
Angular Artillary
Rule Delta 1
Inertia
Heat Blast
